A Word from Josh: There are several notable things about this weekend's shows. First of all, tonight's show was the big EIGHT-OH-OH in Cherry Pie history, a milestone which makes it even more interesting that both shows this weekend are in venues that are new to us. I guess we can still broaden our horizons after all these years. However, the biggest news of the night was that we performed tonight without our lead singer Johnny Spandex who hurt his ribs in a fall on Wednesday morning. He will be fine, but for now he's not able to inhale deeply enough to belt out these great rock songs the way he normally does. Enter our good friend Charles Thomas to fill in. Most people in the room didn't know about this change until the curtain dropped at the beginning of the show which made for quite a surprise. Charles is a monster musician and consummate professional who normally plays out these days with two different bands: Angels & Outlaws and Lube. He is also a lifelong fan of 80s Rock and did an amazing job tonight on just two days notice. We all missed John but people were quick to realize that this Pie show was still well worth the price of admission. We've had a handful of fill-in musicians over the years but Charles now holds the distinction of being the only one who has filled in for two different members having filled in for me back on 2/1/14. Yes, he's THAT versatile. Anyway, tonight's show was a blast. It's easy to wonder why we haven't played this venue before, but hey, better later than never. The Metal Grill reminds me of a lot of venues I played in the 80s and 90s. It's got that "seedy metal club" charm with its large par cans hanging on the back wall, scuff marks everywhere and walls covered in the coolest band posters. And what's more, when you step outside you're struck by the strong smell of raw bacon. This is pretty normal according to the local residents, many of whom have been coming to Cherry Pie shows for years. We heard from a lot of people who were glad we were finally playing in their neighborhood. It was a fun time for all and we look forward to returning. Next time we'll bring lettuce and tomato. -Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? : "" |
