A Word from Charles:
As the guest-guitarist for the evening, Josh has given me the honor of writing the tour blog for the evening. First of all, let me just say as a long-time fan of the band, and as someone who has known John for 22 or so years, it was a great honor to get the chance to play with Cherry Pie. As an "outsider", I was made to feel totally at home and was treated well by every person involved in the organization, and by the fans too!

With Josh away and nary a keyboard to be found onstage as a result, the band refocused the set list on "two-guitar rock" for the evening. It made for a pretty serious show of head-banging fury and fiery licks. I mean... we opened with "The Hellion" and "Electric Eye" by Judas Priest. If that didn't say something about how things were going to unfold, you just weren't paying attention!

From there we slammed down a collection of songs torn right from my youthful guitar-hero collection: Whitesnake, Skid Row, Ratt, Def Leppard, AC/DC, Van Halen, Guns n Roses... it was like it was the late 80's and I was back in my first gigging band. It brought back lots of fun memories, and playing those songs was just as fun today as it was then. The stage at Rooter's is a lot like the old "Headliners" stage back in the day in Madison, so I felt right at home.

I got to meet a lot of very interesting people on the set break, and might have had a shot or two of Jägermeister handed to me... then we were back at it. More AC/DC, some Journey, a lovely acoustic, sit-down version of Bon Jovi's "Wanted Dead or Alive"... then some classic Aerosmith, Mötley Crüe, Quiet Riot, and Scorpions. We closed the night out with a mucho muscular Metallica Medley. Lights, fog, confetti cannons, 4x12 cabinets, stick-twirling, big hair, blinding lights, and guitars that were way too loud. It was just like I had always wanted it to be when I was in my bedroom learning guitar as a kid!

My big thanks again to everyone in the Cherry Pie organization. Great bunch of people! Hope we get to do it again sometime!    --CT
