| A Word from Josh: Kelly's II is always a good time for us and tonight we enjoyed playing for another great crowd. Several hundred people came out despite foul weather and the fact that none other than the iconic Bon Jovi was playing just up the road at the Bradley Center. You may remember that back on March 12 of last year we played at Kelly's II on the same night that Motley Crue was in town and that show turned out very well for us also. I don't claim to understand it, I suppose a lot of people just aren't up to paying the big bucks for the big shows. I certainly don't mind playing the part of the "poor man's Bon Jovi"... I guarantee that the many women shaking there stuff in front of us were every bit as gorgeous as the ones who made it to the Bradley Center tonight. Yes, I love this job. Anyway, our show started early with an opening act called Stray Voltage who played a great 75 minute set that featured a lot of good time classic rock. We hit the stage shortly after 10:00. We had originally planned to start the show with "Same Ol'Situation" but the club DJ played that one right before we went on. Doh!... Oh well, we replaced it with "Girls Girls Girls" and that worked out great. In fact, it was awesome how the blare of the motorcycle engine got a rise out of the large crowd even before we hit that first chord. Yes, the show started hot and stayed that way. Along the way I was surprised to see Dave playing what looked like a pearl-colored Stratocaster. Normally, he only plays Peavey Wolfgang guitars so this seemed odd. It turns out that Dave had taken some time off from writing his latest volume of Haiku to make this guitar himself. Way cool. He told me he plans to make more guitars in the future. Hmmmmm, with a skill like that he could create a whole line of custom Cherry Pie guitars. Just think of the possibilities. Of course some people who went to see Bon Jovi came down to join our party afterwards. The first ones started arriving during our break. Down the stretch things got crazier and crazier. We finished the second set with some pretty heavy-hitting tunes before we returned to the stage for an extended encore. After Dave and I exchanged riffs in our traditional guitar duel I was feeling rather spontaneous. Inspired by a suggestion from someone in the front row I tore into "You Really Got Me", a song we had never played before. The rest of the band had no idea it was coming but they joined right in and played the whole thing pretty much perfectly. I pulled a similar stunt in Madison two weeks ago with "Don't Stop Believing". Both of these impromptu moments drew very positive reactions from the crowds. I think it just adds to the magic of live performance when you never know what song we might pull out of our asses next! A little Slayer, anyone? --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Kat & Pat: "Attending the show for us was a very spur of the moment event!!!! Once at Kellys we had planned on just kinda sticking to the back of the crowded bar and listening to that old familiar sound of CP but we were quickly spotted by some great long lost friends and made our way towards the stage to get a BIG hello from Josh and a huge laugh out of Johnny. We had a really fun time after a long haitus of no CP it was so nice to see alot of familiar faces such as all the guys, my 2 crazy, sexy, outrageous dancing partners, Mario and his beautiful wife, Greg, Jeanine, Bittersweetus,TammyM,Paul, Julie & hubby from Chicago, but we missed Jewelz and Stef!!! Great show as always!!!!!!!!!!!!" I love pie: "Awesome Show, I loved when you guys did the new Journey and you guys definently need to keep playing Pound Cake. Great job with Van halens "you really got me now" theres really nothing you guys cant play." Jeff: "Great show as usual guys! Poundcake is my new favorite song you do! Keep the VH coming!" Tammy ( the other Tammy ): "First off .... Thank you, thank you for the very special birthday wishes and pulling me up on stage to wish me Happy Birthday !!!( and from my fellow front row rockers.. Greg, Jeanie, Amanda, and Tammy - Thank you for the birthday wishes as well ) Once again, one smokin HOT of show, granted I only was able to make for the second set - well Bon Jovi came first, then "hey" lets take a road trip to Wind Lake to catch the second set of Cherry Pie.... Awesome show again and again..Can't say enough.. see you this weekend!! Take care.." Greg Godina: "Jeanine and I enjoyed another great show by Cherry Pie, despite Bon Jovi playing up in Brew-Town. It is a great idea to play songs "spur of the moment", to see if the fans like it. Just remember, no Culture Club or Milli Vanilli, OK?!" Dave: "I'm the bassist in Stray Voltage. First, thanks for being so cool about sharing the stage. We had a great time. Second, you guys were a blast to watch. It is always fun to see a band that is polished, confident and delivers the goods. Great show. I really enjoyed your music." Bittersweeteus: "Kelly's is one of the place's I really enjoy seeing CherryPie because of it's nice size dance floor and the location of the stage. The CP guys performance this night was one to talk about. They played with the intensity of a raging storm. Giving the fans fuel to ignite their inner rockn' soul. John, using his irresistible charm and fun-loving spirit, lead the fans onto the crazy train of rock-n-roll insanity. Before the ride was over, the CP guys gave everyone two encore songs to carry with them til it comes time again to board the crazy train." |
