| A Word from Josh: It was exciting to finally get to play at the new BMO Harris Stage and pavilion that debuted at Summerfest last year. It is a beautiful facility built on the site where the temporary "Classic Rock" stages used to be set up between the Marcus Amphitheatre and Lake Michigan. The band playing before us was fellow long-time Wisconsin cover act Johnny Wad who played a very impressive and entertaining set. They were also a lot of fun to hang out with backstage (it's normally not very easy to get me to drink Tequila). Our set went from 8:00 to 9:15 pm. I think we played pretty well and gave an overall "Summerfest-worthy" performance for a typical Summerfest crowd of several thousand. But, here's the thing (yes, there's a thing). The new BMO Harris stage has a policy of reserved seating designed to allow fans of the headliner, in this case Billy Idol, to skip all the other bands before enjoying a good vantage point for the "main event." Yeah, I'm not a fan of this policy. We played in front of thousands of seats, most of which were empty, while a majority of the crowd was being held about 100 yards away in the "general admission" section. No, this isn't your father's Summerfest. The irony of playing in such a beautiful facility for a crowd that was largely prevented from even entering it seemed worthy of an Alanis Morissette song and made for a vibe very different from our eight other Summerfest experiences. Still, we had a darn good time. It was cool to see ourselves on the big video screens on either side of the stage as we played and the staff behind the scenes were great to work with. After our show I watched some of Billy Idol's set and met a lot of Pie fans and I made my way among the crowd. Yeah, life is pretty good. --Josh Were you at this show?
