| A Word from Josh: It's amazing how much technology has changed our lives in so many ways and yet it's still so hard to predict the weather. Tonight's show was originally planned to take place outside on the shore of the Mississippi River in the small town of Bellevue, Iowa. However, forecasts portending imminent thundershowers led the organizers to move the entire event into the banquet hall of a nearby bowling alley. This was a prudent move for sure; I mean, it's not their fault that this turned out to be one of the most beautiful days we've seen all year! In any case, the event was a smashing success. The idea behind the "Reunion on the River" was to gather alumni from the two local high schools, most of whom graduated in the 70s and 80s, and bring them together in a celebration centered around music. Over the course of the day more than a dozen bands played, each of them consisting mostly of Bellevue grads. Some of the bands hadn't played together in decades. The ages of the musicians ranged from the mid-20s to 83! So what was Cherry Pie's connection to the Bellevue High Schools? None actually. We were brought in as the "professional entertainers" to cap of a full day of festivities after being recommended by our friend Jay Theisen a long time Milwaukee resident (and former bass player for the Lovemonkeys) who himself grew up in Bellevue. We're glad he got us involved, we had a great time and it appears everyone else did too. John commented on the great vibe and camaraderie on display in a town that reminded him of where he grew up. Seeing all these other musicians in action, I couldn't help but compare and contrast different life and career paths taken. A lot of people play music in high school. In The Pie I guess you could say we represent those who doggedly stuck with making music as a major part of our lives and livelihoods. Some of the other musicians we saw tonight also play professionally while others were dusting off their instruments that had laid dormant since those high school days. Most I suspect fall somewhere in between the two extremes. I'm sure some people look at what we do and wish they'd stuck with music more (we do make it look good). Likewise, we can look at those who put their instruments aside in favor of different careers and lifestyles and examine what we may have given up along the way for the sake of music. We all make choices every day that make us who we are. It just so happens that, in our case, we choose to ROCK! --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Jack: "Loved the show! Very talented band. I would travel a long distance to see this band perform again. Every song sounded like the original artists." Bittersweeteus: "How fitting! A small town located along the mighty Mississippi River and train tracks flowing through it. What a great place for the CherryPie train of Rock to stop. Here we are amidst a class reunion and many a classmates attending to reminisce and listen to the sounds of the evening. There's a band playing inside the hall and the CherryPie guys are pacing as they await to take the stage and give the fans in attendance a taste of what 80's classic rock is all about. Once they took stage, it was like the atmosphere in the room took a 180 degree turn and all eyes were on these five fabulous rockers! They poured out the sounds and electrified the room. And John, who is one debonair and well-built rocking man, was full of life and fun-loving antics as he impeccably worked the crowd. Even though the show was only two hours long due to the longer performance of the other band, CherryPie still ruled the night and gave a performance of that was raise the roof, off the wall, crazy! It was well worth the long drive to this small town, seeing the beautiful scenery, the mighty Mississippi River, and most of all , to see these guys in action as they rock the night away!" |
