| A Word from Josh: Brat Fest is an event that I have personally become very involved with. This year I performed at Brat Fest in one way another on each of the four days of the event. On Sunday Mother Nature wasn't cooperating. A light rain was falling as I approached the grounds and, as I made my way in, hoards of attendees were heading to the exits. This did not dampen our spirits as I met up with John and Dann and we enjoyed the festivities the best we could as we waited for our time on stage. We wandered over to a different stage where our friends Lube were playing a set to a rowdy crowd that was quite happy rocking out in the mud. The frenzied atmosphere went over the top when their bass-player Todd dropped to a knee and proposed to his girlfriend Kerrie in the middle of a song ("Beverly Hills" by Weezer to be exact). I commented to John that, when we play our set, we could only hope to maintain the great vibe already established. Back at our stage the act preceding us was Chicos Kumbia, a Madison-based, Spanish language group of teenagers featuring multiple keyboards, drums, percussion, vocals and dancers. They were quite impressive and the wet crowd appreciated them very much. They finished their set and it was our turn to take the stage. The band change-over was quite hectic as we hustled frantically to get our equipment in place in just a few minutes. Between-band entertainment was provided by Brian Beer who played some amazing music on a Chapman Stick (if you don't know what that is you should really check out his website). Finally, the moment came for us to begin our set and I looked up to see the biggest crowd I had ever seen at Brat Fest. "What are you all doing here!?" John jokingly asked the crowd, astonished that so many people had persevered through the wet weather to see our show. By this time the rain had stopped and we were primed to give the show of our lives. Everything came together as we unleashed a strong set into the moist Madison air. We saw soooooo many friends in the crowd from every walk of life. It all felt great and I think that was reflected in our performance. Our show came to an end and we had to get our equipment off the stage as quickly as possible to make way for tonight's headliner Royal Bliss. We signed a lot of autographs and had a lot of pictures taken with fans and eventually returned to being regular folks enjoying the festival with everybody else. (BTW, during the four days of Brat Fest I ate a total of 11 brats.) Combined with last night's successful show in Greenfield, this weekend was a perfect way to start Summer for the Pie. As the day started out, it was beautiful then the clouds moved in consisting of rain which didn't seem promising for the entertainment of the evening. But to our surprise, it cleared up just in time for CherryPie to take stage and put on a show of shows. Their sound was strong and their talents were well displayed during this 1 1/2 hour show. And John, who always looks great while wearing rocking attire, which includes those hard-ass looking Harley boots, had "nothing but a good time" while he rocked our world. I had a lot of fun during this 1 1/2 hr. show and thought it was great that John saluted us fans for showing up on such a dreary day. Plus, lets not forget what this weekend was all about. The remembrance of those men and women in the service who gave their lives for our freedoms and as John put it very well,"that we are able to enjoy great entertainment like CherryPie"!" sandie: "This was a great show. Or...actually what they still say is "Cherry Pie at Brat Fest was amazing!" I loved that show and the Brat Fest! Great memories and impressions that will last me a lifetime! Awesome show guys!" |
