A Word from Josh: We've had a great time playing southwest of Madison this summer. In June we played Mount Horeb and Verona (separated by 10 miles) seven days apart and this week we played New Glarus and Belleville (separated by 5 miles) a mere six days apart. All of these shows have been hugely successful. No territorial attitudes here, just a lot of music-lovers coming out to drink and party with The Pie whenever the opportunity arises. We really appreciate the people of Belleville showing us such a good time. This was a truly American small town festival complete with softball and fireworks. On a sad note, I'm sure you are all aware that Jani Lane of Warrant died yesterday. We are forever linked with Jani in that we named our band after his seminal composition. We've had a lot of fun riding the Cherry Pie train for the last 11 years. Sadly, Jani did not seem to enjoy the fruits of his own creation nearly as much. He was a true rock star, and suffered from many of the pitfalls thereof. Traveling with his band put him on a pendulum constantly swinging between extreme adulation and loneliness. Unable to find a foothold in reality he apparently succumbed to alcoholism and descended into despair. It's all too common of a story. We are not rock stars, we only play the role of rock stars on weekends. We can't even imagine what Jani's life was really like. Our "normal" lives have allowed us to find a solid foundation with our families. After all, we end up in our own beds after almost every show. We each have a wonderful woman that we share our lives with and who keep us grounded when the band threatens to swell our heads. Seeing what happened to Jani really helps us appreciate what a blessing it is to enjoy the thrill of music so intimately while living normal lives. Rest in peace brother. --Josh
