A Word from Josh: As of last Thanksgiving I had never heard of Faribault, Minnesota. Now we've played there three times. This time it was in the parking lot of the Faribault Golf Club as part of an event celebrating the club's 101 years of hitting small white balls across big green lawns. This was our first ever outdoor show in Minnesota and it showed a lot of potential. However, Mother Nature had other plans and rocked us like a hurricane with a violent thunderstorm that came through at about the time our first set was supposed to start. We covered our equipment in tarps and the production company lowered the stage covering as low as it could go to protect everything. This proved crucial in preventing major damage as heavy winds blew the heavy rains sideways for a while and still managed to soak the surface of the stage and dampen everything on it. Meanwhile, most of the couple hundred people who had already arrived were sitting in the clubhouse bar "ooing" and "ahhhing" at the tempest taking place outside. As nasty as the storm was, weather reports indicated that it was narrow and moving quickly. Indeed, it eventually passed revealing clear skies behind it. We dried off our equipment and were pleased to find everything to be in working order. After a quick soundcheck the show got underway at about 9:45 (the originally scheduled start time was 7:30). Strict noise restrictions from the city meant that we still had to finish at 11:00, but that allowed for a pretty solid set of 80s Rock. It would have been a shame to drive such a long way and not play at all. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? |
