A Word from Josh: It has been 49 days since the last Cherry Pie show, the longest hiatus in the band's history. Whenever we take an extended time away from performing I always wonder if our audience will still be there when we come back. In the past the answer has always been "Yes." This time around the answer was "Hell Yes!!!" In fact, the spacious Kelly's II played host to at least 800 Pie Mongers, a number which surpasses the capacity of most other clubs and probably ranks as one of the biggest indoor crowd's we've ever had. It was quite a rush to return to the stage in front of such a great audience which was as charged up as we were. We unleashed seven weeks of pent up energy on them and they were glad to get it. I think we showed remarkably little rust and were able to put on a performance that benefited from that "Oh so fresh" feeling. Although our layoff was due to multiple medical issues affecting our aging bodies, that did not stop us from getting some work done in the meantime. Some of that work bore fruit during our first set tonight when we played "Off to the Sun," the first ever Cherry Pie original song to see the light of day. We've got several more of our own compositions in the works, so be warned. Another result of the time off was a big bushy salt-n-pepper goatee on my chin. I don't think I'll keep it much longer, but since my birthday is in a couple of days, I figured I should look my age for at least one night. A few people actually responded quite positively to the look. I looked "fatherly" according to one friend. But, as they say, the more things change the more they stay the same and fortunately most of the show was the same old PIE; just glad to be back in the saddle. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Connie: "Great show! Thank you!" Jennie: "After many weeks of no Pie, you did not disappoint. We had a great time as usual and the crowd was ready for ya. I loved the new CP song, can't wait to hear more of them. Shane looked smokin', loved Frankie's solo. Happy bday Josh, see you soon." Margie: "The band put on another great show Saturday night! We had my bachelorette party there & brought along many people who had never seen the band before & we all had a great time! Thanks especially to my cousin Frank - you rock!!" Josh: "The short lay off didn't have any ill effects from where I was standing. Kick ass show." Bittersweeteus: "It's great to have you guys back!! You're still strong in your performance and haven't lost your touch of entertaining the fans. And John, who is still as gorgeous as ever and still has the most appealing attributes, gave one spectacular performance. With a excellent song list and original song, it was hard to have the show end. All that's left to say is, Missed you guys and "I Want to Rock"!!" Motus: "Great show guys! I liked the new song, looking forward to more! My friends and I had a blast!!" Howard: "Once again, a great time was had by all. Besides the great crowd and awesome tunes, the staff and folks at the bar were first class. My friend Big Randy doesn't get around so well, and was concerned about seating. An E mail and a phone call later, a seat and a table were there for him to use as needed. The staff made sure we were well taken care of all night, and we left commenting how "at home" we felt, having just visited a bar for the first time, and 100 miles from home! Luckily Keith came along and was our designated driver, so no harm, no foul. The only problem was the White Castle stop after numerous pitchers of green beer! Anyway, great show as always, well worth the trip...now if you guys would play down here on a SATURDAY night, and put out a CD, everything would be reallly great! Thanks, and see ya soon!" |
