A Word from Josh: The main thing I really want to say about this rather forgettable gig was that our production crew really kicks ass! They came through under difficult circumstances, busting their butts all day, dealing with this poorly planned festival and an afternoon full of thunderstorms. Mark, Andy and James are the guys who made this show happen at all and we really appreciate it. Live music began at around noon with several bands scheduled to play, but much of it ended up getting rained out. Thankfully the skies cleared as our 8:00 pm showtime neared. We played on a small stage under what seemed like an even smaller tent. I literally had to duck under a support wire to go between my keyboard and guitar positions. The crowd of a few hundred were scattered up and down a closed-off section of Wisconsin Avenue, spending much of the evening split between the stage area and the beer tent oddly located about two blocks away. Shortly before showtime a friend from the area told me that, knowing Okauchee, things were sure to get really wild and crazy later in the night. She was mistaken. But, of course there were a lot of really nice and supportive people in the crowd, some of them seeing us for the first time. Early on we enjoyed the antics of several young (under 8) children dancing in front of the stage. It was particularly adorable when a couple of little girls did the Macarena during "Once Bitten Twice Shy". Later in the night we let loose and even got a little silly. Of course we always seem to manage to make the most out of any situation. After the show it was nice to be able to relax just down the street at Coconut Joe's Beach Club where we will be playing as part of their regular band rotation in the fall. See you there in September. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Coconut Joe (i.e., John): "As always, even under lack luster conditions CP comes through with a great show. Most bands would have given up and played half hearted during such a situation but CP made the best of it. Thanks to John and Shane for swinging by during intermission and Josh for swinging by after the gig. The Coconut Joe's staff looks forward to a get show on Friday Sept 9th at Coconut Joe's Beach Club." the mikes: "show rocked, poor planning of the festival...could they have put the beer tent any farther away??? On the Bright side we burned off alot of the beer calories walking back and forth." friend from the area " the other Tammy": "ok ok ... I am the friend from the area.. Well, I have to admit this was not a typical Okauchee function, I owe you a drink Josh!! First off " family fun festival " ??? ..there was a beer tent almost located in Oconomowoc ( ok I am exaggerating, but it was not properly locate to say the least ) , and one ping pong table. Thank goodness there was a incredible band there I know " Cherry Pie " to save the evening !!!! You guys had a great performance , even under the poor planned festival conditions... ( and another festival hiccup in the evening...they did not even have a place to hang your banner, thank goodness for the T-shirts hanging on stage-always thinking !! ) Oh, by the way... John, was given a litte stuffed monkey during the song " We're Not Gonna Take It " well- this was from my son... probably did make much sense. It truly was supposed to be given to John during " Monkey Business ".... OOOOPS!, oh well- it is the thought that counts. It appeared that John did enjoy spanking this little stuffed monkey on stage!!! Take care to all.. it was great seeing Greg, Jeanie, Tammy, my new Summerfest cop friend, Ron and Tracy, and so many more.. Hope to see everyone @ State Fair... Take care and have a great couple of weeks!!" Bittersweeteus: "Located on one of the main drags, was CherryPie. As they were setting up, the small fest was starting to take shape with small stands and the people were slowly trickling in. Once the CP guys started to play, it was like a thunderclap trying to awaken the small town. Their performance was like lightening. Using their heated energy to try and pull the people closer to the stage. In the second set, John, wearing his Slayer shirt from the start of the show, using more of his aggressive and tenacious demeanor and the help of the band, was able to bring the crowd alot closer to the stage. Even though the weather earlier in the day threatened to keep the guys from performing, it stopped in time and cleared so these guys could put on one kick-ass show!!" |
