Rockin' with the Pie |
A Word from Josh: It sure is great to be back at Riponfest. After two awesome visits here in 2002 and 2003, the powers that be decided to not have us back last year. Fortunately, they saw the errors of their ways and made things right this year. With a completely open air show, we could not have asked for better weather. Early in the afternoon I took time out from setting up to visit a neighborhood party nearby featuring the Ripon-based heavy metal band Kindred Soul. They mixed great music with great hospitality. A bit later I enjoyed sitting in the tent set up as our dressing room eating a cheeseburger and comparing notes with band and crew members about how good all the food is at this festival. Our show started in the waning moments of daylight and, as night descended, things got really nuts. Yes, this is the Ripon we know and love. Event organizers decided, for some reason, to make this year's festival theme "Christmas in July". That is exactly the kind of stupid idea that we just love in Pie World. We made the most of the festive atmosphere with a bunch of inflatable nick-knacks embodying the yuletide spirit. As with our previous trips here, we were heartened by the amount of younger people who were getting into the 80s music. Toward the end of the show, things really climaxed when Jason Mansmith took the microphone and sang a devastating rendition of "Crazy Train". He is the singer of a local band called Bent and he was also responsible for hiring us for this festival three years ago. It was great to see him again and we appreciate the continued support. The crowd kept up their awesome level of enthusiasm right up to the time they got kicked out of the park by the police immediately following our show. Indeed, the whole evening lived up to our high expectations. All I can say is that we'd BETTER be back next year! --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? denise and gov: "Excellent show, Biggest sounded very good, hope you come back" Courtney: "You guys were absolutly awesome this year. A show I never want to forget. John did a great job with the vocals on the Skid Row songs, Sebastian Bach is a hard one to pull off but you nailed it. Keep on rockin' guys, 'cuz you're pretty damn good at it." brenda cebery: "yes i was there and i like it alot and i am so hapy that you were ther and email em back what you thought of my coment and i hop that you wil be there next year and got pict" Kok Sucks: "We rocked our asses off." Bittersweeteus: "The CP guys know how to kick-start the night with their attitude of "let's get rocked"! Their performance was so heat intensified, that if it were really Christmas time, they would have melted all the snow. John, who was like a live wire going from end of the stage to the next, was able to psych the crowd into a primal scream. To sum it all up, CherryPie has the power to overcome the rockn' fever that has no cure, by giving us one more for the road. There is one more thing I do have to add. Even though the guys got wild at times, they did take the time to acknowledge the young children in the crowd. I think that's pretty awesome!!" The Berlin Contigent: "Need we say more? Cherry Pie, once again rocked! The blow up candycanes and balls came in handy with our own version of the Big Hair Beach Party held the day after Riponfest. Thanks for throwing a shout out to Jason Pierre, especially Johnny for having a chew with a few of the boys. As always, Great White was great to be heard, you guys are unstoppable. Keep on Rockin" Lisa Marie (Driving With Strangers): "Thanks again for letting me sit-in with you guys, it was lots of fun! And thanks for adding my photo and link to your website :) Wisconsin people are sooo nice and you guys ROCK!" Jason "Biggie" (Bent): "Just a quick note much like Lisa to say much thanks to the boys in Cherry Pie for letting me rock out with you on Crazy Train. As always you guys kicked some major ass. And John keep rocking with the SLAYER bracelet. Rock on! \--/" |
