A Word from Josh: Our visit to Riponfest last Summer was one of the high points of the year for us. So, we headed back with great enthusiasm knowing that, with cooperative weather, we would have another great time. The weather could not have been better and the show came off spectacularly. It was a great way to keep the ball rolling following last week's success at Summerfest. We were able to bring the large high stage alive with our brand of high-energy 80s rock and exciting light show. The festival crowd really got into it and made it a night to remember. True, Bon Jovi was playing down at Alpine Valley, but we were having our own party (and it didn't cost $100 to attend). One thing I noticed about this show was that at the front of the crowd were a lot of younger people who were really getting into it. I'm talking about guys and gals between 16 and 22 years old who seemed to know a lot of these songs. As a band of old guys playing old songs, that's not something we see very often. So, is this a Ripon thing or are we starting to appeal to an exciting new demographic? Amongst this "youth movement" were Miss Riponfest Melissa and Runner-up Rebecca who moshed with the crowd in their sashes and tiaras. John brought them up on stage during the third set, where they danced, waved and threw leis into the crowd. Also up front in the crowd, headbanging with the best of them, was Jason Mansmith, last year's organizer who was responsible for bringing us to Riponfest. In just our second performance here, it has already become one of our favorite Summer traditions. The show ended promptly at midnight and the local police wasted no time in clearing out the thousands in attendance. The dust settled to find that the full moon and a bottle of Jack had left our soundman Brian trashed beyond recognition. He was having a great time and feeling no pain, although he also was not getting any work done. I had never seen him quite like this. He was even laughing at my jokes! Our stage technician Dan packed up the entire sound system by himself and then John and Shane volunteered to help him load it into the truck. I think it was a bonding experience. Looking ahead to next week's Waukesha County Fair we have high hopes to make it three great festival shows in a row. - Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Heather: "I thought you guys were awesome. I met most of you and i wish i could of stayed longer to talk. You guys rocked." Kip: "Corn dogs, deep-fried Twinkies, and 3 sets of Cherry Pie under a full moon! Ripon Good, indeed!!" Paul: "It was a great show. Great song list and great performance as usual. I am glad that the band took time to acknowledge the two contestants from the Miss Riponfest pageant also. It shows that 80's rock lives on in all ages. I thought the good crowd after dark helped the show grow even better as it went on as well. Glad the whole family of patrons were able to enjoy the songs and show not just some of the people." Melinda: "You guys were hot, sexy and you rocked the night away thank you for a great show!!" Jewelz: "Another terrific show guys!! Sure glad we made the road trip to be part of it!! And yes talk about young ones, I was surrounded by them, but they were a cool bunch..and thanks to Adam who crawled under the stage to find my sweater for me!! :)" Crystal: "Dude, you guys were freakin crazy!!! I am one of the young ones that you saw up front (im 20 years old), and boy was the trip from Appleton worth it!!! I can't wait to see you guys perform again!!! Keep up the good work!!!" Franara: "After getting autographs and buttsqueezing from the entire band just can't wait to see you guys next year at Ripon Fest 2004." Buck Naked: "You guys rocked... and rolled. Long live Big Hair Music. I was one of the 19 year olds headbanging hardcore in the front. You must come back to Riponfest again." David Coverdale: "WOW, i saw you guys last year and you were great, but this year you stole the show, i was one of the 19 year olds in the front. I lost my voice at the end of the concert. I brought along about 10-15 friends and some of them thought you guys would be a joke, but by the end of the nite they are now fellow Big Hair advocates, ROCK ON GUYS, better be back for 2004. You guys are proof that Big Hair has never died." The Real Franara: "Just so you know I have much more to say. Some yahoo decided to use my name! That's just wrong!! The show was fabulous. Loved every last note of it. Ihavent seen a show like that since... last year. And I got more than the autographs: guitar picks a T-shirt 2 set lists from the stage drum sticks and a drum head so, if any one out there wants to add to their Cherry Pie collection get in touch with me and you can add to my daughters collage education.!! The bids are on! The guys were great, Shane we all love you the most and Rico you are a great addition to the band, Just remember next year we want MORE SPIN!!!!!!!!! Until next time" Guido: "Indeed, a killer show! You guys rocked and came through for Riponfest. On behalf of the Riponfest board of directors thanks much for a great show. We'll see ya soon. Don't forget to visit www.radtkebrothersbrewingco.com" Miss Riponfest: "I just wanted to say thank you for coming to Riponfest both years. I had a blast, and I hope you come next year too. I'll be there again!" |
