| A Word from Josh: Yee-haw. This was an old-fashioned sh**-kickin' good ol'time. Western Days is a big event complete with carnival rides, games, animal attractions and, of course, funnel cakes. Central to the western theme is the celebration of country music. As one of the few non-country bands to play during this 4-day event, we first felt like outsiders visiting someone else's territory. That feeling soon disappeared as the successful day unfolded. The huge music tent in the middle of the midway featured two stages at opposite ends. Country band Marshall Law started the day at noon on the east stage. After them, another country band Geoff Landon & the Wolfpack began their first set at about 5:00 on the west stage as we began to set up our show back on the east stage. We started our first set at 6:00 and then alternated one hour sets with Geoff Landon & the Wolfpack until we finished the evening at 11:00. The intermingling of 80s rock and country music proved quite popular amongst the thousands who attended this impressive event. The spacious stage gave us plenty of room to do our high-energy shtick. With many children in attendance, our show did not contain any of the lewdness or nudity that spiced up last night's "Beach Party" show. But such shenanigans were certainly not necessary. The crowd, studded with hundreds of cowboy hats, was as loud as any we've seen this year. It was beautiful as we could hear them singing right along with the one chorus of "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" that we do at the end of "Heaven". Having passed that audition, John later had the crowd sing all of "Wanted Dead or Alive". It's always such a rush when that happens. Rico's drum solo was particularly well-received and featured about a dozen of his family members cheering him on from behind the stage. As if things weren't exciting enough, we got an unexpected visitor during "Cold Gin". A small raccoon had wandered under the stage and was causing quite a fuss among the first few rows of the crowd. As John always says, you never know quite what to expect when you come party with the Pie. Indeed, we had a wonderful time at this very impressive festival. We are very appreciative to everybody who worked so hard to make it such a success and who made our part of it run smoothly. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Julie Lawonn: "I was at West Allis on Saturday and heard you guys for the first time and you were awesome. We brought a bus from Glenbeulah,WI for the rodeo and had lots of time to check out different things. Again you guys were great. We could only stay for the first set because the bus had to leave. Are you gong to be playing anywhere in my area soon? Plymouth, Sheboygan, Fond Du Lac? Later Julie" Jewelz: "Well two nights in a row and I was beat all that dancing with the gang (Poison, My sexy dance partner, Jas, Tammy, the "other" Tammy, Kev, Tim, Greg & Jeannie) Awesome show as the tent sure filled up when the boys started playing. Even the cowboys rocked to the Pie!" Tim: "You guys absolutely rocked Western Days Saturday!!! I played drums with Geoff Landon Saturday, and I was completely blown away at what I heard you guys do!! Rico, I worship the drums you play, there are not words to describe what you do on a drum kit! Also nice to hear an '80's band singer "sound" like an '80's band singer. Thanks for the props on your picture page for Geoff's performance - you guys are a class act all the way - can't wait to see you again in Illinois, Shark City anytime soon??" The other "Tammy": "What a great show @ Western Days guys.. you never lets us down. This particular show I was able to bring my son ( he is 7 years old ) I think he now your biggest fan... it might have something to do with meeting certain member of the band. ( "thank you" John.. my son keeps telling me, I can't believe he finally met a REAL ROCK STAR.. he has been telling all of his little friends all week too - (kind of cute )... Anywho... Thank you for great " family " show... and it was great to see everyone..( Tammy, Greg, Jeannie and son, Jewelz, Jody, the cuties from Pegasus, and many many more... ) See you all at the next show... until then.. watch out for those raccoons!!!!!" |
