Stef's Birthday |
A Word from Josh: It's been seven months since our last time at Kelly's II and that's way too long. It's one of our favorite rooms. It's long and cavernous so when it fills up it really feels like a major event. Well, tonight it filled up pretty good and we were happy to provide the tunes for such a tremendous crowd. Kelly's hosted a private party late in the afternoon so we had to set everything up super early. As a result we had several hours to just hang out before starting the show. This was a pleasant departure from the normal procedure of taking the stage mere minutes after lots of heavy lifting. Our sound man Mark lives nearby and offered his home for band members to hang out at during the down time. At showtime we made our way to the stage relaxed and ready to rock the full house. Speaking of the stage, we were pleased to find that the stage has been expanded much wider than before giving us plenty of room to strut our stuff. One of the people we were strutting for was Stef, a long-time fan who was celebrating her birthday with us for the third year running. She even joined us on stage to strut HER stuff during her favorite song "Talk Dirty to Me". Later on we welcomed a new friend to the stage... Susan is a member of the United States military and recently returned to Wisconsin from Iraq. John rapped with her briefly before making a dedication to everybody serving our country overseas. John added, "It's because of them that we are able to do this kind of thing!" The crowd roared with appreciation at the gesture. As is usually the case, the show rocked pretty hard down the stretch. This time that edge was accented as we came on stage for the encore and started riffing on Pantera's "Cowboys from Hell" in tribute to guitarist Dimebag Darrell Abbott who was murdered on a stage in Ohio on Wednesday. John then used the emotion of the moment to give an extra passionate performance of "We're Not Gonna Take It". It was a wonderful night and the good news is that we won't have to wait another seven months to do it again. We will be returning to Kelly's II in just five weeks. 'See you there. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Bittersweeteus: "When you entered the bar, it had a chill in the air. And no matter how many people were there, it still didn't warm it up. Then CherryPie appeared on stage showing off their ability to go back in time and perform those well-known 80's rock songs. The place started to heat up, but it really reached it's highest temperature when John displayed his adept way of being like some of those rock'n lead singers. It always feels good to go back in that era of 80's rock songs and it's especially great to be able to see and hear a band that knows how to make you believe that you are back in those times." Stef: "I just wanted to thank everyone who came out to help me celebrate my birthday on Saturday. I had so much fun. The shots and beer were flowing freely. Although I have to say that at no point in the evening did I puke which, in my book, makes it all the better. LOL Special thanks to Kat, Pat, Jewelz, Jody, Connie, Scott, Laura, Mike, Cathy, Bob, Sheila and of course the band for making my birthday so great. You guys are the best!!" Jewelz: "Well Kelly's is my favorite place to see CP play and as expected the show was terrfic. Place was packed and lots of terrific CP friends (Kat, Jody, Poison, Laura, Greg, Kev) to rock the night away with!! So on that note have a wonderful holiday and a safe new year everyone and well see you all in 2005!!" Katie Gosa (soon to be Evans): "Thanks Guys for an awesome Bachellorette Party!!! It was awesome. GREAT SHOW!" |
