| A Word from Josh: This was interesting. This was our first time in this room, yet there was a lot of familiarity. Club owner John used to run Bamboo Bob's Beach Club in Milwaukee where we played many times. He set up this new bar with a similar tropical theme even bringing along some of the same decor from his old room. John is a great guy and has always treated us really nice. But this is definitely not a typical Cherry Pie venue. While the room is a bit larger than the tiny Bamboo Bob's, the stage is just as small. But, more importantly, The Luau has successfully developed a reputation as an exciting youth-oriented dance club and that emphasis doesn't change just because geezers like us come to town. We were asked to play shorter sets on the cramped stage to allow the house DJ more time to pump loud, bass-heavy techno music into the air. Certainly, the dance floor stayed packed from midway through our first set until the end of the night. Much of the time the crowd resembled a "Girls Gone Wild" video (which was pretty cool) yet it felt odd to think that many of these people were not actually there to see us. On the flip side, there were many familiar faces who were there to see us and most of them who I spoke with complained bitterly about the disco atmosphere. Nonetheless, overall the night was certainly considered to be a huge success. It was also a very special night for another reason. For the second night in a row, dozens of paper signs were discretely distributed throughout the crowd which were then held up in front of the stage on cue. The signs read "Happy Birthday Monstro -- Over the Hill". Now, in years past, I've known Shane to be a bit sensitive around his birthday. In fact, I've seen him kill people for lesser offenses. But, this year was different. With many friends and family members on hand for the ocassion Shane melted into sweet, somewhat intoxicated teddy bear. I guess he has finally accepted reality. And besides, he is certainly a charismatic, youthful, good-looking guy for somebody who just turned 54. Happy Birthday Shane!!! --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Hot Granny: "Show was awesome...just wish it were more of the band and not the DJ....Thanks again for the wonderful step back to the 80's!!" Jessica: "I loved the show!! I was one of the many who came to dance. I was surprised to find out there was a band. But once you guys got going--I had a great time. I'm only 23 but I love 80's music!!! I can't wait to see the pictures!! I hope you guys come back to the Wausau area again, I will definitely be one of the faces in the crowd!!" Bittersweeteus: "This was a unique bar because it had the atmosphere of a tropical island. But the CP guys used their professional talents to change the atmosphere to a 80's rock concert. The crowd was slow to take hold, but once they did, they were rambunctious and involved. John's performance was exhuberant enough to keep the mood and the crowd going. And of course he looked great in his appealing outfits which showed off his charisma and robust physique. I have to say, I had a great time." Girl In The Playboy Shirt: "Yeah. I was really not feeling the love with "The Luau." I was one of those who came only for the band, and stayed only for the band...I saw CP play earlier this year with Firehouse at Rooters with an old friend, and I was so impressed I absolutely had to go again. What luck to have you guys play in Schofield though, only an hour drive from me! I'm not one who's much for the bar scene to begin with, so I can't say the atmosphere was entirely to my liking,(or at all to my liking) but the band rocked so hard it made up for the "I Got Game" crowd. I loved every single minute of the show. The Headbangers Ball medley was a great tease--I'd love to hear you guys fully cover Master of Puppets and some of the others in there. Hearing Iron Maiden was a treat too...Of course, my very favorite was Josh doing "Ah Leah." (*Sigh*;) Some other songs I'd like to hear: "Smoke Without A Fire," Bad Company, "Easy Come, Easy Go" Winger, "Naughty Naughty," Danger Danger, "Rocket Queen," GNR, "Dig Up Her Bones," The Misfits...:)I think you guys would rock the hell out of any of these. Of course, your sets were fantastic as is. I brought a good friend who actually was in an 80's hair metal band that opened for Alice in Chains before they got huge. (No name, he's shy.) Anyway, he was also completely blown away. He said he absolutely couldn't believe the amount of musical talent that was on that tiny stage. I was so glad to hear that...I have been bragging about you guys to all of my friends for so long. I'm really glad they got to enjoy you too. Thanks so much for playing somewhere that's totally out of your league--it made my month. What more can I say? We'll be back!" The Bartender: "I was bartending that night and let me tell you it was a ray of sunshine a break from all that dance music! It was so awesome working to great Rock and Roll instead of dance music. I hope you guys will consider playing here again!" |
