"A Slice of The Pie" • Evansville 4th of July Festival • Evans... |
A Word from Josh: Tonight was the first of three consecutive nights playing 4th of July Festivals (kind of ironic that two of them fall on dates other than the 4th). It's a great stretch for us with patriotic fervor in the air. We had never played in Evansville before, but it's just a short drive south of Oregon where we played a couple of weeks ago. The setting doesn't get much more quaint than this. We played in a beer tent nestled between a lake and a baseball field. The event staff made us feel very welcome, but nobody knew what to expect from the evening. And then night descended upon this lovely hamlet and with it came an onslaught of 80s Rock feeding off the enthusiastic support of hundreds of music lovers who filled the park. We had a good old-fashioned barn burner on our hands. On hand providing technical assistance was Mark Schultz who was hired by the event to supply the sound and light system. I first met him back in the late 80s when we both played in rival bands that were covering the same music Cherry Pie plays today. It was great to see him. Also in attendance were Tom, Joe and Raven from the band Denim n Leather. I've known those guys for a long time too and Tom lives in Evansville. The show was a rousing success, even when we faced a significant technical issue... Toward the end of the first set during "It's My Life" the PA system lost power which rendered our microphones useless. The crowd rose to occasion and sang the rest of the song loud enough to make up for it. That kind of excitement endured through the whole night. Thank you Evansville for showing us how such a quiet little town can rock in celebration of our great country. -Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Rick: "Awesome as hell! Loved seeing you guys again. Really wanted to hear some quiet riot though. Hope I can hear some next time I see ya." |
