A Word from Josh:
This was our fourth year playing the New Glarus Firefest but it already feels like more of a special band tradition than that. This is largely because many people from John's family always attend including his mother and several nieces, many of whom have been coming to Cherry Pie Summer festival shows since they were little girls (the nieces, not John's mother). Well, they're not little girls any more. This was apparent by how they rocked the front row, singing along and even contributing a few choreographed dance moves. As in past years our stage was set up inside the fire station. Before our show another band played in a tent next to the building as dozens of people enjoyed a barbeque chicken dinner. They did a great job playing a lot of "golden oldies" and old-fashioned country music. The drummer was Don Hinz, a 60-year-old who continues to play despite multiple hip replacements and heart surgery. I found this out during a very nice conversation I had with his father August Hinz, a musician himself who was obviously proud of his son's accomplishments. Coming from a musical family myself I enjoyed seeing this multi-generational dynamic at play regardless of age. The weather turned out to be quite nice for this type of event and people came out in droves. The fire station was particularly packed for our second set and our show went quite well which put everybody in a good mood, especially John. The "new guy" Kase on bass continues to play great and make new friends at every show and tonight he even met up with some old friends who came to see Cherry Pie for the first time tonight because of him. It goes to show that even after 15 years, The Pie family continues to grow.     --Josh
