A Word from Josh: The Badger Bowl has always been good to us. We've played here 78 times, far more than any other venue, and most of those experiences have been "very good" or "excellent." As such, we came into tonight anticipating another solid but typical mid-winter show at the Badger Bowl. I don't think any of us could have guessed how the night would actually turn out. In terms of sheer numbers, we're talking about a record-breaking night. Over the course of the evening almost 600 patrons entered the bar. Dozens more were turned away as the capacity of the room was being exceeded (Sorry Dave and DeEtte). Why did so many people come out to see us on this particular night? I have no idea. I guess the planets just aligned that way. Regardless, there they were, and it made for a very exciting night. At one point, one of Frankie's drum sticks actually punctured one of his China cymbals and got wedged in the gash. It was so bad-ass that he left the stick hanging there for the rest of the show as a symbol of how much we rocked on this night (no pun intended, LOL). I particularly appreciated the extra heat in the room since I had participated in my first ever Polar Plunge a few hours earlier. Notable faces in the crowd included popular TV weatherman Bob Lindmeier, popular mustelid mascot Bucky Badger (celebrating a miraculous victory by the UW men's basketball team over 3rd-ranked Michigan earlier in the day) and venerable Madison rock singer Kenny "Gonzo" Keith. John and I go way back with Gonzo. In the early 90s he owned his own nightclub where all the best bands played including three bands that I was a member of. One of the waitresses there would later become John's wife. In 1994 Gonzo sang on some demos of my original music. Fast-forward a few years and you could find Gonzo repeatedly ignoring our invitations to come to Cherry Pie shows. That streak came to an end tonight in spectacular fashion as he joined us on stage to contribute some awesome vocals on a couple of classic tunes. In all, there is no doubt that this was our best show of 2013 so far and we'd like to thank Madison for the continued support. As long as you keep coming out to rock with us, we'll be sure to come rock with you. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Jessica: "Last night was amazing and sounded great! Can't wait for the next show!!!" Sarah: "My feet hurt; sure sign of a great night! Come to Janesville!" Bittersweeteus: ""Are You Ready For a Good Time!" Hell Yeah and who better to bring it none other than CherryPie! CherryPie is one hard rocking band that consists of five guys that know their rocking business very well and know how to sell it to us. They throw those classic 80's rock songs at us with every inch of their very souls to show us they can bring the roof down and set "Heaven On Fire"! And John, who rules that stage with tenacity and heat, that you can feel the band take us higher with each and every song that they perform. Even though I wasn't able to stay for the whole show due to a prior engagement for Sunday, I had a fantastic time and was totally impressed! CherryPie will always be my number one band and to John, you still have the best smile and attitude!" U know who we are: "Awesome show!!!!!!!! Neat seeing Bucky Badger as well. Soo much talent among you the 5 of you------looking forward to better weather , and another slice of the pie. See ya soon!!!!" Tennessee Love: "This is indeed hands down my favorite venue that the guys do. This was yet another awesome night and I truly enjoy working with Cherry Pie as well as the Production Team. Until the next time we are at Badger Bowl :-)" |
