| A Word from Josh: About a week before this show Toe-Knee from Mill Creek called me as said that they would like to bring in an opening act for this show. I explained how opening acts generally cause us logistical problems, mainly due to our prima donna attitude about our excessive stage gear. "These guys don't take up much space," explained Toe-knee. It turns out this is because the band members aren't fully grown yet. The oldest members are 14 and the 10-year-old drummer is so tiny she makes Frankie look like a normal sized adult man. Apparently Bad Habitz has been creating quite a buzz in the Fox Valley with their stunning pre-pubescent musicianship and we were about to get a taste of it. Right away I heard people comparing them to Hanson. Yeah, maybe... if Hanson had any BALLS. Bad Habitz plays heavy rock covers from the 80s and they do so with power and attitude. They played an exciting set and the crowd loved it. We followed with a pretty typical Pie show marred by a few technical issues and perhaps more than our share of old-fashioned mistakes. But most of the flaws seemed to go unnoticed by the supportive crowd that was just looking to have a good time. The most serious incident occurred during "Pour Some Sugar on Me" when Dann accidentally knocked John's wireless microphone out of his hand and it fell about nine feet to the dance floor below. Once retrieved, the mic no longer functioned and we whipped out an impromptu performance of "Beth" with Dann on lead vocals as our soundman Matt hooked up a wired mic for John to finish the show with. At about this point in the show I realized that I had made a wardrobe faux paus. During the break I had quickly grabbed a brand new shirt out of my bag, ripped off the tag and put it on... backwards! Oh, the humanity!! Although the show gave us several sources of frustration all's well that ends well and at Mill Creek the night always ends with awesome pizza for the band.
