A Word from Josh: One of the big stories today was about how the world was supposed to end. Well, it didn't, so now I have to write something for this space (groan). The bigger story was how none other than the mighty Bon Jovi is playing over at the Bradley Center tonight. We warned them that our show would hurt their attendance, but they went ahead with their concert anyhow. We had the advantage of having all five of our members present at our show; Our secret for keeping out of rehab?... day jobs! This, of course, was Rooterpalooza, an annual weekend-long cornucopia a live music hosted by Rooters to benefit the Children's Hospital of Wisconsin. We've had the pleasure of participating in Rooterpalooza several times over the years, including two years ago when we shared the bill with Photograph, hey what ever happened to those guys? Anyway, tonight we shared the evening with a newer band called Naughty Chair and I tell you, I think this troupe of fresh young faces might really be going somewhere. The logistics of doing a multi-band show like this required a early start to our day. I arrived at 1:40 in the afternoon (why am I even awake at that hour?) to find Frankie and Kevin had already loaded in the gear. I had my kids with me and sent them bowling while we set up and sound-checked. Following the sound check we did a partial tear-down to make room for the other band and then I went home for a while. Upon my return at about 8:30 I was very pleased to find Naughty Chair playing a great set for a packed house. They finished up a couple hours later and we had a pretty smooth change-over. We hit the stage firing on all cylinders in front of a great crowd. We played one long set, punctuated by auction and raffle announcements and T-shirt give-aways. Everybody involved with this event really appreciates the awesome turn-out on a night like this. In addition to Bon Jovi, Rick Springfield and Disturbed were also playing nearby (not at the same venue, that would be weird). Next we turn our attention to the Summer festival season which is looking to be one of our best ever. Thanks everybody for a great Spring 2011. --Josh "Diary of a Roadie" By Kevin Bon Jovi may have been in town, but at least our lead guitarist wasn't in rehab. Tonight we rock with some friends for Rooterpalooza. Let's roll... [more] Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Heather: "Thank you for the awesome show! :)" Biggest Fan: "LOVED it! Great time guys thanks again. See you at the festivals." The CP Bunch: "Awesome show! Too long of a wait though, but worth it when you guys finally did start. Made for a long night. Had a great time-looking forward to being outside instead of inside. See ya soon!" Debbie & Gary: "What an awesome show. I think that will the best night of the whole year. Both of our favorite bands playing on the same night, same place for a wonderful cause. We brought our son Jamie with to celebrate his 22nd birthday, and his best friend Mike. Mike also won the drawing for the Godsmack. They had a great night also. Looking forward to the summer shows so some of our other children and watch you guys rock. Also thanks for the picture." |
