| A Word from Josh: Truth be told, I guess you could say that we are a demanding band, and I'm not just talking about booze and hookers. We play a lot of instruments and carry a lot of equipment. It takes a lot of microphones and mixing channels to handle us properly. Tonight we were the opening act and did not have our own sound technicians on hand, a situation that often requires compromises in our production values. In our history we've been in this position many times. Still, we'd never had to deal with such an inadequate sound production as tonight. The compromises we were forced to make were very frustrating starting with a greatly stripped down drum kit. We also had to make do with only three vocal mics (we normally use six). We were not able to do any kind of sound check and when the show started we had no monitors for the first several songs. The rest of the set was punctuated by frequent blasts of feedback. This is only the second year of this ambitious festival. Behind the scenes, staff people were scrambling to deal with all sorts of headaches all day and our technical issues were clearly not a high priority. Despite all this, I really think we did a pretty fair job of putting on a good show, although it was an uphill battle all the way. Of course, the enthusiastic support of the crowd helped a lot. After the show we packed up quickly. At this point we were finally able to relax. John and I stuck around and enjoyed the headliner Firehouse. Meanwhile, the Nelson Brothers and the Marshall Tucker Band were performing on other stages at the festival. The Nelson Brothers actually finished their show and came down to enjoy the last few songs of the Firehouse set. Members of all these popular bands proved to be quite accessible with friendly meet-and-greets after their shows. When the festival was finished for the day the night was still young. John and I went across the street to Rooters Nightclub where Keith Pulvermacher and Ryan McIntyre were playing acoustic music for a strong crowd of folks who, like us, weren't ready to go home quite yet. Amidst the merriment they let us get up to play a couple of songs which was a lot of fun. Of course, next week Cherry Pie will be headlining Saturday night's exciting "Rooterpalooza" line-up. One with only 17 cymbals? ;)" Lonnie & Christ: "You guys did an awesome job of what you had to work with. We noticed alot of mad faces on the stage that came with the constant problems that you guys kept having but like awesome musicans you guys are you fought threw it. Have an awesome time camping and have a smores for me." Bittersweeteus: "As you walk through the fair you can hear different bands performing. Then you come upon the Budweiser stage where CherryPie is rushing to set-up. But once they started to play, their music and professionalism out weighed any problems that incurred from the rushing around. John perserved through all the challenges and interferences, to get what he set out to accomplish when the show started. They played for a hour and a half which was just enough to tease you and give you a glimpse of what four hours of these guys would be like. Hoping that the next band to perform would help rekindle the fire that CherryPie started, just turned out to be a small spark and not enough to keep it going." |
