A Word from Josh:
Our State Fair 2005 experience began with a bang on Friday and, for a while, it looked like it would end with a whimper on Tuesday. The day's oppressive heat kept things muggy well into the evening and the early crowd was on the "polite" side. But down the stretch, as people poured in from other events letting out nearby, things really got cooking and we enjoyed quite a rockin' party for the last few songs. One special moment came late in the show when we dragged our old friend Colleen on to the stage. She has been a fan and friend of the band since near the beginning, back when she was too young to come see us, but she did anyway. She has been in the Navy for the last four years and this October she will be shipping out to Iraq for the first time. We knew we had to give her a special send off, offering our best wishes and prayers and letting her know that we are very proud of her. You know, the concept of "supporting the troops" has become so surreal in our society where it is often called into question as a part of intellectually dishonest political bickering. I mean, do we really need those bumper stickers? Of course we all support the troops, not only because without them nothing else is possible, but also because in them we see ourselves; or at least how we like to think of ourselves at our most noble. Seeing Colleen in her Iron Maiden T-shirt rocking out to a Cherry Pie show was a perfect reminder of that. Regardless of what you think of our government or the war itself, as individuals on a human level nobody deserves more respect and support than our friends and family in uniform who are sent into harm's way. During her deployment we will be keeping in close touch with Colleen and may be posting updates about her time there to this website.     --Josh
