| A Word from Josh: This was a different kind of show in so many ways. Not only did we play one brief set as part of a benefit show, we did it as a three-piece acoustic group. That's right. John, Shane and I took the stage wearing jeans, armed with only acoustic guitars. Yeah, it was a lot less intense than a normal Cherry Pie show, but it was pretty cool. We practiced for this show on Saturday and it was so much fun that we wondered why we hadn't done something like this years ago. We were flattered to be asked to play this event which benefited the Red Cross Tsunami Relief efforts. Although they originally hoped that the whole band could participate, in retrospect it's probably best that it happened as it did. This wasn't exactly a Cherry Pie type crowd (with a couple of notable exceptions) and the small PA system probably would have exploded if hooked into our guitar amps. We billed ourselves as "Piece of the Pie" and played completely acoustic versions of some of our most popular cover material. It seemed to go over quite well. We also brought out "When the Children Cry", the old White Lion tear-jerker that we only play when terrible things happening in the world catch our attention. Although we usually thrive on mindless fun, I think it's only human to take things a bit more seriously once in a while. But don't worry. Despite our new acoustic sound, we won't be playing out that full set of Crosby, Stills & Nash anytime soon. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Kraig: "A "Piece of the Pie" is better than no pie! Had a great time and met some new Pie fans. Great talking to you guys, your all class acts. Friday will definitely be re-plugged at Badger Bowl!!!" Laura: "Certainly a change, but I loved it! A nice change of pace and extremely crowd-appropriate. My table-mates were 40+ and worried they'd dislike the show. They ended up dancing to most of the second half! I would love to see this sort of thing happen again." Bittersweeteus: "This was a different but a unique way to hear the CP guys perform. There was only three of them, but they were very euphonic. The songs they chose as they went along were well played. These guys are so talented, that no matter how they perform, whether it be a few of them or as a group, they always outdo themselves. I also commend them on always giving their time to help support a good cause." |
