A Word from Josh: I think the best word to describe the circumstances of this show would be "quaint". Nestled amongst some tree-covered hills outside of the sleepy hamlet of Barneveld, the setting reminded me of some of my childhood haunts in beautiful North Carolina. The stage was set up on a grass field inside a small tent giving the show the feel of a private keg party out in the middle of nowhere with a few dozen good friends. What had been a hot sunny day turned into a cool breezy night. Many of those in attendance seemed caught off-guard by the dropping temperatures and did their best to stay warm by drinking and dancing (see how that works?). The original plan for the evening was for us to play until 1 AM, pretty late for an outdoor show. In fact, earlier we had been told by an event organizer that the site was isolated enough that we could play all night if we wanted. As it turns out, the local law enforcement officers disagreed. Instead, we were shut down early with many songs of our second set left un-played. I suppose it didn't help matters when Shane coaxed two female on-duty police officers onto the stage to set up "I Can't Drive 55". Obviously smitten by their good looks, Shane waxed poetic about his bachelor party fantasy where hot chick cops suddenly start taking their clothes off. The ladies just kind of stood there awkwardly as Shane went on about how sexy they were. They were good sports (thank God, I thought we were all headed to jail) and were finally allowed to leave the stage after John called them "the worst strippers" he'd ever seen. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Laurel Canyon: "It was the electrifying band on stage that warmed that cold tent up!! Lots of fun; too bad it was cut short." TERI: "yES IT WAS A LITTLE DRIVE TO GET THERE,BUT NO MATTER WHAT OR WHERE CP IS ALWAYS WORTH IT! I was one who did some dancing & drinking but me no drive home! Even in a small crowd you still are at your best&get the crowd going. I was waiting for the female cops to put the hand-cuffs on Shane(photo monent!) Hope you guys have a great gig down in Iowa next Sunday. Please Josh take some pictures! Oh yeah Becky thanks for the dance! Till Summerfest! xoxoxo" Bittersweeteus: "This was a excellent little hide-away to have a night of unrestrained merriment. It had a haunting feeling to it, with the darkness and the chill in the wind. The band produced enough heat with their electrifying performance that kept most of us warm. John was throwing out his own fieriness with his robust movements and strong voice. Then it happened, the fiasco! A few legal partypoopers ruined the festivity and we had to end it early. But it wasn't enough to ruin the great time I was having with my new found CP fan!!" |
