A Word from Josh: This was a pretty unique show in a lot of ways. First of all, it was Cherry Pie's 200th show, a fact not lost on John when he noted so many new faces in the crowd. "Where the Hell have you been?" he asked. There were familiar faces too, of course, but not the "usual" ones. Taking place several miles west of Madison, there were very few band "regulars" who made the trip. Instead, the crowd was punctuated by many family and friends, particularly of John's, Rico's and mine, many of whom don't make it out to shows often. That was a nice touch. The event itself was a three day music fest to benefit Billy Meudt, a local resident who suffered a spinal chord injury in a car accident this past January. The event was put together pretty quickly, even having to change locations earlier in the week. Remarkably, it was quite successful. In fact, the bands playing over the three days included Supertuesday, Cherry Pie, Bob Rocks and Mighty Electric, a line-up most festivals would love to have. Now, being a charity event, we were thanked for participating and called generous for donating our time, but I must say that it was really the event organizers, led by Ken Lowe who were the generous ones. They arranged to keep us full of food & drink and even provided hotel rooms and a limo service for band members. We are very grateful for all of that as our compensation seemed even better than a "normal" show. The only down side is that it's hard to deliver 15% of a cheeseburger to our agent. The show itself went pretty smoothly, although there were very few people in the tent when it was time to start playing. We were told that it was the same way the night before but things got much better from there. Sure enough, as soon as the sun went down, the tent filled up nicely and we all had a great time. We will be returning to Barneveld in three weeks to play "LuckysFest" over at Birch Lake Park. I hope that word of mouth from tonight helps to make that event a success. See you there. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Mary Knight: "you guys are awesome! 2nd time I've heard you and will definately make it to more of your shows this summer. Nice to meet you, Josh:)..." Bittersweeteus: "I was a little worried about the weather, but it turned out to be a nice cool night. It was very commendable that the band devoted their time and superb talents to help someone out in their time of need. They played awesome and were very entertaining. It seemed as though everyone there was having a great time. I even got to see a good friend of mine, Bill Meudt, who was a co-worker, now retired, and is the father of Billy Meudt for whom this benefit was for. I enjoyed myself and it was a nice way to start the Memorial weekend." |
