A Word from Josh: When John thanked the crowd for "braving the weather" to come to our show, he really meant it literally. With Tornado sirens blaring throughout the area, the show began under a dark cloud (again, quite literally) and a sense of danger was in the air. Before the show we joked that if a tornado were to tear into the building and suck us off the stage into the sky it should happen during the guitar solo of "Rock You Like a Hurricane". Only about 100 brave souls were foolish enough to be in attendance as our first set got underway. Then, a malfunctioning light dimmer kept us in near darkness for the first two songs and a dirty keyboard connection made "Runaway" sound like a mockingbird with Tourette Syndrome. The night was off to a really bad start. After clearing up the technical problems I proclaimed "We are going to have a really good night... starting NOW!" My little optimistic pep talk proved prophetic as we did go on to have a good night. Things ran smoothly after that point, a lot more people arrived as the threatening weather abated and we got more and more goofy onstage (usually a good sign). John led a toast to Mother's Day dedicated to "all you mothers out there". Shane ran with the concept, adding that women interested in becoming mothers could get a donation of "fatherly juices" from the band (he's such a generous guy). On another subject (none too soon), I continue to have trouble sticking to a diet due to friends besieging me with culinary delights at shows. This time I got a cake from Suzy and some awesome brownies from Lisa. Funny thing is that Lisa didn't even attend the show. She dropped off the brownies on her way to see The Toys who were risking their own lives over at the Dry Bean Saloon. But we all agreed that the brownies were sooooo good that it was forgivable (THIS time). Local music connoisseur Jeff was out in the crowd taking pictures once again. His latest band Collapse of Evolution will be making their Badger Bowl debut on June 7. - Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Bittersweeteus: "Even though I worked til 6 and the weather was eerie looking, Cherry Pie was a great way to end my night. The band looked great and they put on a fantastic show! I know the place didn't get packed as normal, but maybe that was due to the weather. I feel, though, the place had a cozy atmosphere and the people did finally get in a rocking mood. And to add to my night, a few things happened that left a great impression on me that will last a long time! Thanks again guys for a great night!" Muttley: "Great show! Stormin outside, stormin inside. And I just rode the storm out. With the company of a whiskey drinking woman, I'd go for a second round." |
