A Word from Josh: This was a very unusual show in many ways. This was a party for Chris Ankele to commemorate his retirement from 25 years active duty in the Air Force. His wife Maria hired us to play at the event which took place at the "Landing Strip" which is a small bar located on the Truax Field Air National Guard Base which is a part of the Dane County Airport in Madison. We had to pass through a stringent security screening to get to the venue. The show started at about 5:00 pm on a Thursday and we had to keep the volume pretty low. Chris enjoyed well-wishes from many friends in attendance. The crowd was appreciative of our show but much more subdued than at a typical Pie bar gig. And, as if all these unusual circumstances were not enough, we did this show without the services of our lead singer Andy who had planned a family vacation for this week. Filling in for the show was our old friend Joey Gleesing from The Now who has played several shows with us over the past three years. The show went well. Chris and Maria seemed very pleased with the entire event and we were honored to be a part of it. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Maria Ankele: "I was informed I had set the bar really high for any future parties on base - though people were quieter than the normal crowd, their enjoyment and appreciation was huge! You guys made Chris's day special and unforgettable! We can't wait to see pictures! Best wishes, Maria" |
