A Word from Josh: It's our Valentine's show and, if I felt the need, I'd be willing to offer up some schmaltzy clichés to play up the occasion. But insincere hype is not necessary here because the evening offered up some very real and special moments. First, our good friends Charles Thomas and Lindsey Watson were on hand. Normally this is not unusual, but this is the first time we've seen them since they welcomed their healthy baby boy to the world two weeks ago, a fact that many people were celebrating with them. My dear old friend Suzie Pieper presented a generous gift bag to them during the break. Now, I can't help but observe a strange symmetry... I've known Charles for about 25 years and we are the same age (Yes, I know he looks a lot younger than me, I get it!). My youngest son turned 18 last month just days before Charles became a Dad for the first time. I can't help but feel a sort of "passing of the baton" as my job of raising kids is symbolically coming to an end right as Charles' is just beginning. I know that he and Lindsey are awesome parents and I am very happy for them. I wish them the kind of wonderful and powerful experience over the coming years that I had in cultivating new citizens of planet earth. So, back to tonight's show. The place was packed and love was in the air. Even a bunch of my single friends seemed to be finding community and strength from each other on this most holy of the Hallmark Holidays. The show went well and the crowd rocked our asses off. There were many amazing moments. But none more so than when Kase sang "Faithfully" during the second set. "Faithfully" has always been a favorite song of mine to play and it has a special history of going over well at the Badger Bowl. But in this case I was taken aback when I looked across the stage from my keyboards and saw that Kase's wife Angela was in the front row up against the stage looking up at her hubby and hanging on every word as he sang one of the most romantic songs of all time. We were playing the song to 400 people but he was singing it to her, it gave me goosebumps. I've been in this band for 17 years and it's nice to know that there still can be pleasant surprises. Happy Valentine's Day everybody!!! -Josh PS: For you music-lovers who frequent the Badger Bowl, I'd like to let you know that, starting March 7, they will be having an OPEN JAM every Monday night and it will be hosted by none other than yours truly :-) So, if you're an amateur musician who'd love the opportunity to strut your stuff on the BB's big stage or if you're just a fan who wants to support your talented friends and neighbors while drinking the night away, come on out and support local music on Monday nights.
Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Holly Jo: "It was a blast!!! How cow it was packed!!" Ashley: "Always a blast..." |
