A Word from Josh: We don't play private events very often, so they tend to be pretty unique experiences. Tonight's show was part of a conference for WEMSA (Wisconsin Emergency Medical Services Association). The running joke was that if we were ever to have a heart attack, break a bone or choke on something this would be the best night to do it. Perhaps, but I had my doubts that after I saw how drunk many of these skilled medical professionals were getting. The show took place in the Crystal Ballroom on the fifth floor of this elegant old hotel. As is typical for these types of venues, the load-in was horrible. Our equipment had to be lifted up onto a loading dock, go up one flight on a freight elevator, down the hall and onto a much smaller service elevator to the fifth floor. The long pieces of trussing had to be carefully brought up the stairs. We allotted extra time and manpower for the load-in and load-out and managed to get our entire show in place for a fun Thursday night of 80s Rock. The room itself in a lovely ballroom with several spectacular chandeliers of various sizes including one big one right over the middle of the stage. The show went well and the hundreds of EMS professionals in attendance seemed to have a really good time. One EMS worker who could not attend was my friend Jessica Petri of the Mayville EMS who tends bar at the Backstreet Cafe where I normally host an open jam on Thursday nights. Tonight she had to hold down the fort without me and miss the Pie show. We will have to make it up to her sometime. In the end, despite the load-in situation, we had a great time and are already talking about playing at this event again next year. --Josh Were you at this show?
