"A Slice of the Pie" • WI State Cow Chip Throw Festival • Sept. 5, 2015

A Word from Josh:
This is our third time playing this event in the last four years. It's a hoot participating is such a big event centered around bovine excrement. I arrived plenty early to relax and watch some of the cow chip throwing first hand. We're talking some elite athletes here. The afternoon was very hot and we sweated heavily as we set up our equipment. Temperatures moderated as showtime approached. Our show got underway in the large beer garden shortly before dusk to a modest crowd. People filed in throughout the evening and the second set achieved the typical Pie party intensity. Rod Paar is the singer for The G Men and a familiar face at many of our Madison area shows. He lives near Prairie du Sac so we welcomed him on stage to sing some Judas Priest for his friends and neighbors. It was enjoyable evening at the festival and the fun didn't end there for some of us. I went bar hopping in Sauk City afterward and enjoyed the local hospitality. However, Charles wasn't as lucky because he has another gig with his band Angels and Outlaws tomorrow at 11 in the morning at the Taste of Madison. In fact, Charles also had a gig this past Thursday and another one this Monday. That adds up to playing gigs five days in a row, which is a particular challenge for someone who has to sing like he does with Cherry Pie. Kudos to his commitment and durability. He said he looks forward to returning to his day job on Tuesday so that he can finally get some rest.     --Josh
