A Word from Josh:
I suppose it would come as a surprise to absolutely no one that I come from a very musical family. Grandparents, parents, brothers, aunts, uncles and cousins of mine play instruments, many of them professionally. And now both of my sons are following in those footsteps in a big way. I spent most of today in Whitewater to see my 18-year-old perform at the State Solo/Ensemble Festival held there. I was so proud to see him play three different instruments among this gathering of dozens of talented young musicians from across the state. It was certainly the highlight of my year so far and I am grateful that I was able to attend. Afterward I had to hurry to the gig in Manitowoc where I arrived with barely enough time to quickly set-up before the show. That's too bad because I missed out on the chance to hang out with the guys from Johnny Wad and to enjoy the hospitality of the event organizers. We had no idea what to expect when we came here but what we found was pretty cool. The event took place in a large ice arena (minus the ice) at the Manitowoc Expo Center. We played on a large stage set up on the north end of the building. After our first set Johnny Wad played their first set on another big stage set up across from us on the sound end of the arena. By this time the room had filled up with at least a couple thousand people, most of them wearing motorcycle attire. Pretty sweet gig. We rocked out our second set to the biggest crowd we've seen so far this year before turning the show back over to "The Wadd" who closed the evening of entertainment with another great set. Another detail of this show worth mentioning is that Chris Villand, a long time friend to John and me, played bass in place of the absent Dann. He did a great job and was a lot of fun to work with. To you triva buffs out there, Chris is the seventh different bass-player who has done at least one fill-in gig with us over the years. How many of them can you name?     --Josh
