A Word from John: This was not our first time playing in Port Washington but it was our first time playing the annual "Fish Day" celebration and WOW what we have been missing! I really had no idea how large this festival was. After making it to the Classic Rock stage area I had some time to kill so I made my way down to the Main Stage. There really wasn't much going on there so I was thinking about going up to the Country Music Stage then I remembered that I passed it on my way in, and it was a quarter to a half mile walk just to get there. I decided it was better to save my energy for the show so I walked over to the shoreline and watched the splendor of nature. As I looked out on the water I asked myself "Is THIS the big lake they call Gitche Gumee?" Then as I ran through the lyrics of Gordon Lightfoot's "The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" I remembered, that was Lake Superior. This was Lake Michigan and the song says that "it steams like a young man's dreams" I really don't know what that means but it rhymes pretty good :) We ended up starting our show about 45 minutes late do to technical difficulties. Our sound tech, Mark Hartzel, had his hands full but as always he found the problem and it was time to it the stage. Since we started later that expected we decided to do a 2 hour 15 minute set and give people their moneys worth. And I think everyone appreciated that because nobody was leavin'. In fact the crowd grew larger and larger as the night went on. One person that I didn't mind seeing leave was this drunk and obnoxious guy who insisted in striking up a conversation with me while I am singing. MEMO TO DRUNK GUY: WHEN I AM SINGING TO AN AUDIENCE I CAN NOT PUT THE SHOW ON HOLD TO TAKE YOUR RIDICULOUS REQUESTS !!!!!!! Luckily, I think he got the hint because I didn't see him much after I told him I would have no problem throwing him in the nearby lake. And the lake it is said never gives up her dead. Oh wait. Wrong lake again :) After our marathon set we were treated to a wonderful fish dinner (what did you expect at Fish Day? Gyros?) and a spectacular fireworks display. Despite the heat and humidity and one really drunk stupid guy, the night was a huge success and we certainly hope that we are invited back next year. Port Washington certainly knows how to put on a party. And what band goes better with a party than The Pie? --Johnny
Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Ryan: "Man u guys rock!!!! U really need to come to sheboygan n play maybe bratdays but i need to rock like that again its been a while. Thanks 4 that." Wendy: "Awsome show...loved having front row for the whole show! Can't wait to see you at State Fair on the 5th, it's my husband's birthday!!! Love Rocking with you!!!!!" Alex: "Great show!" Kevin: "You guy's rocked!!!! What a show! Thanks!" Cindy: "My favorite band!! Had an awesome time!!" Bittersweeteus: "As CherryPie took off from the starting line they weren't full throttle, but once they shifted into fourth gear and the four barrel kicked in, they were like a classic muscle car racing down the highway. Their performance created such a spark that it kept the pistons firing and the engine at a high rate of speed. And John, who was behind the wheel of this souped up muscle car, gave us one hell of a ride as he controlled that car through every curve and straight a way. Back in the day, there was nothing like cruising in a sweet looking muscle car listening to those 80's rock songs and the way CherryPie performs those songs, it's like you're actually back in that car cruising down the highway rocking to those classic 80's rock songs." Jeni: "As usual you guys were awesome! I went to Rockfest also this past weekend and was so happy to end my weekend with you! Where else can I get my 80's hair band fix! Thanks for playing so much Bon Jovi- you do them proud!!!" Casey: "You guys rocked as usual! Keeping playing "Still of the Night"... dialed that up at just the right time! See you at the state fair!" Paula: "First time hearing you, great band! You have an awesome drummer, WOW!" Laurie: "Awsome show. All my friends from Sheboygan love going to see you guys. See you on the 8th. Yes I took vacation just for you guys." |
