| A Word from Josh: This gig brought us to the small town of Lena in the northwestern part of Illinois. The venue was a small beer garden set up behind a small bar located about a block from a small family festival. Hmmm, did you notice that I used the word "small" three times in that last sentence? Certainly we were not in Texas. Anyway, the small crowd of less than a hundred was considered quite a success by the people who hired us, which is important. But in general I must admit that we found the entire experience to be somewhat forgettable. It didn't help matters that we played on an uncovered flatbed truck. No, not one of those fold-out trailer stages. It was just a plain old flatbed truck. As a stage, it was pretty shallow; so shallow that John had to position himself to the side of Rico's drums instead of in front of them. Another thing that hurt our "vibe" was the absence of our bass player and all-around stud muffin Shane. He couldn't make it to the show after he was stopped at an airport in California trying to board a plane with a box of Pop Rocks in his carry-on. My old friend and John's current ARRA bandmate Steve Latka did an excellent job filling in for him. Thankfully, the sky stayed clear for this open-air show despite reports of stormy weather back in Milwaukee. Indeed, we were far from home and a man short. But, as usual, we found ways to make the best of the situation. --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Bittersweeteus: "As the sky above darkens and the moon trys to illuminate the ground, you'll see an awesome band under the bright stage lights-CherryPie. This was a small town and sometimes there are things that can go wrong. Like technical difficulties, limited area to perform and to top it off, minimal amount of people. But despite all this, the band put on the best that they could be. John, who seemed challenged by a few obstacles, overcame them with his ever-going stamina and power-driven valor. You guys proved that no matter what problems may occur, you still come out on top." |
