A Word from Josh: Even though it's been only two weeks since we played last, it sure seemed like a lot longer because of all that has happened during that time, including all sorts of holiday activities. I surprised a few people by showing up with a bushy salt-n-pepper goatee. I was afraid that it looked like I had just crawled out of a spider hole. Buzzed with Christmas treats, we took the stage with our typical energetic style and were met with good cheer by a full house that put us in the holiday spirit from the start. The show was hilighted by the return of many of our "regular" fans who, for one reason or another, had not been to a show in a while. This made for a happy reunion of sorts and, overall, the most successful show we've had in a while. Rooters continues to be one of our strongest rooms, which is great because we love how the room is laid out. The electricity comes from every direction which is a pretty cool sensation for a performer. I sometimes found myself turning around and playing for the masses of people who were watching from behind the stage. During the show we celebrated the birthdays of two long-time fans and friends Stef and Colleen. Colleen is a Milwaukee native who has been serving in the Navy for the last two years down in Virginia and will be returning to service in a few days. John praised her military service, pointing out that it's people like her who protect our rights to party. This earned a big ovation from the crowd. Late in the show things were getting pretty goofy. John shined a rare spotlight on our soundman Brian and senior stage technician (AKA Roadie) Dan. "Dan is not actually a licensed gynocologist," Shane told the crowd, "But he did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!" This was our last show in 2003 so it's time to be thinking about New Year's resolutions. Personally, I'm not sure what bad habits I could quit. I already don't smoke nor drink and I have absolutely no intention of giving up cheesecake or Cadbury Eggs. Maybe my resolution should be to start a heroin habit so that I'll have something to quit next year. Ah heck, I'll just try to play fewer wrong notes. Happy New Year everybody! --Josh Were you at this show? Would you like to comment on it? Mrs Horseplay: "Excellent as always!! :-)" Kip Swinger: "Not quite the time the O'Briens show was, but it was great seeing old friends and making a few new ones!! Happy New Year's Josh & Co.!!" Sheila: "Even though I have been fighting the flu and a fever since Friday, I slept all day Saturday pretty much and made sure to get plenty of meds in me before going out! I wasn't going to miss this show!! I drank water all night and was eating cough drops like they were candy! I am paying for it today though with a high of 102.3....Oh well I had a blast...As always thanks guys for a great time and a great show!!!" Jewelz: "Well since I fall into that category of not attending a show for a while, I'm glad I was able to make it and see you guys one more time before 2003 is gone! It was a ton of fun and great seeing all the familiar faces of many CP regulars!! Have a wonderful New Year's and we will see you soon!" Katie: "Thank you for sharing your talents and wonderful stage personalities with us all. Obviously we don't know you personally so we don't know your off stage personalities, but if we did that wonder and awe would be gone. Colleen had a really good time, she absolutly loves you guys! Thanks for making her last night here a great one!(I am her sister-in-law)" Marlena: "Sorry, I fall into that category also, of not seeing you lately, but you guys were awesome and sexy as ALWAYS, and I plan to see you more in 2004! Have a good New Year!" Teri: "O.K. I seen Cherry Pie maybe about 20 to 25 times now! I must be hooked because if I don't see them I go thru Pie Withdrawls! Not only is their music the best But, They are the nicest, friendliest guys in a band. They always make me smile and dance wild! Also the sexiest guys too! Shane has the sexiest smile and don't forget about that tounge!!! WoW! I wish Cherry Pie the best New Year!!Also to all the Cherry Pie fans everywhere!! Rock ON! Love till next time!!" Colleen: "First off I just wanna say thanks to the band for making my last night home an awesome one. Also, I wanna thank John for making my birthday celebration a great one. I had a blast at Rooter's! See ya in March!" |
