Band on Stage |
Faces in the Crowd |
A Word from Josh: Obviously, it's been a rough week. At one point we weren't sure if this show would take place at all because of the terrorist attacks. Plus, this was our first time in this room and we were to be the club's first band of the season. So, there were a lot of reasons to fear a "downer" show. After much discussion and introspection we arrived knowing that we could put on a good show... a true "Cherry Pie" show. The rest would be up to the audience. Many people I talked to seemed to go through a similar thought process leading up to this night. Most eventually concluded that a rockin' good time with the Pie was exactly what they needed right now, to forget about the world for a while and to help regain a sense of normalcy. It turned out to be a very successful show in all respects. The place was quite crowded with familiar "regulars" and plenty of folks new to the band. People were in high spirits and ready to party. Right off the bat, John made quite a spectacle of a Bachelorette party and coaxed the bras off of some ladies for our "collection". A couple hundred new faces reacted very enthusiasticaly to the songs we played and many dancers found creative ways to express themselves. John made special mention of the tragic world events as we did a special performance of White Lion's "When the Children Cry". The lyrics seemed to fit... "Little Child, dry your crying eyes, how can I explain the fear you feel inside? You were born into this evil world where man is killing man and no one knows just why... When the children cry let them know we tried... When the children sing let a new world begin..." This moment of sober (and I use that word lightly) reflection seemed well appreciated by the crowd. We were quickly able to bring back the party and rock the night away. At the end of the show John thanked everyone for being such a great crowd. "Keep flying those flags!" he exclaimed amongst loud cheers and shouts of "United we stand!", "God bless America!" and the like. All in all, I really felt that the band; the bar staff and, most importantly, the people in the crowd all contributed to making this truly the night we all needed it to be. -Josh |
