Band on Stage |
We played in Sheboygan four times between October, 1999 and February, 2000. This was our first time back since then so we were thrilled to renew some acquaintances. However, the evening did not start out well. The lighting company was running very late which pushed back our entire set-up schedule. This was a particular problem at this show because we had hoped to practice a couple of newer songs during sound check but were unable to. Also, once the show started it took a while for the sound to get properly dialed in. As usual, our tensions were quickly eased by an enthusiastic crowd which included such familiar faces as Cathy Dorsano, Barb Prueher, Laurie Abraham, Eric Crittinger, Karen Fleck, Shelly Korlesky, Sandy Guell, Jeff Wakefield, Mam Meyer, Cheryl Swanke, Lori Denk and Joellyn Lacko. The travel award goes to Scott Aney, Connie Aney and Ann Fanke who again drove from Kenosha to see the show. By the time our second set was underway all of our problems were forgotten. The lights and sound were functioning great and so were the folks on the dance floor. Toward the end of the set we realized that we were coming up short on time and needed a couple of extra songs. One of the songs that we had planned to practice in sound-check was "Talk Dirty To Me" with Shane handling the lead vocals. After we were unable to practice it we dropped it from the planned set. However, in a moment of questionable judgement I announced to the crowd that Shane would sing and I started playing the opening riff of the song. Shane was totally caught off guard but came through with flying colors. Naturally, the crowd loved it, not realizing what a position I had put Shane in. All's well that ends well and we all had a big laugh about it. -Josh |
