Faces in the Crowd |
John and I got to the club early to set up so that we could make it out to a pre-show cook-out hosted by Maribeth Luedtke who's devotion to Cherry Pie continues to show no limits. The late afternoon festivities took place at Maribeth's home in Germantown and the gathered crowd included some of the band's most hardcore following including Sheila Tate, Erika Kaegler, Nikki Schmitz, Christine Schmitz, Derek Schmitz, Barb Prueher, Tom Birkenmeyer. Scott Aney, Connie Aney and Kelley Pronold among others. As show-time drew near, Maribeth's guests migrated over to the club in an impressive caravan of cars. During the show John made many mentions of the fact that Kelley Pronold was attending her last Cherry Pie show for a while because she will be soon moving to Vancouver to go to business school. "She's been one of our biggest fans," said John "and we've enjoyed seeing her smiling face at many shows... as well as other parts of her anatomy." The crowd was respectable in size and even more impressive in volume. When John encouraged them to sing along they blew us away with enthusiastic group vocals seldom heard from even festival crowds. Some of the others in attendance included Lynn Smith, Lonnie Stinewall, Chris Stinewall COLOR>, Brian Johnston (and some of Brian's Heavy Nova's bandmates), Jerry Smith, Julie, Ted and a Bachleorette Party centered around a Bride-to-Be named Julie. With the help of some of her friends including Heidi, Jennifer and Darcy, John brought the bashful Bachelorette on stage for a round of 20 questions. She was wearing a novelty T-shirt with condoms pinned to it. John made a disturbing observation... "The problem," he said "is that there are three condoms on your shirt, but there a five guys in the band!" -Josh |
