A Word from Josh: This is a gig we landed after festival organizers caught our act at Sir Buk's in Monroe just a few miles east of South Wayne. We were hopeful that the crowd would be as insane as those at Sir Buk's. Well, perhaps that's a lot to ask but this crowd certainly didn't disappoint. The music got started with the Rain Dogs, a pretty cool blues band. As the afternoon turned into the evening, the spacious beer tent filled up pretty well, and down the stretch of our show a rockin' mob of hundreds packed up against the stage, demonstrating their enthusiasm with drinks flowing, hands waving and flesh exposing! Yeah, we had a good time. Being pretty far from our home-base in Milwaukee, most of our "regulars" were not to be found. This made us appreciate even more the fact that Chris and Lonnie Stinewal managed to make the trip from Racine. Another notable person in the crowd was Jessy Lee, an amateur music promoter who was seeing us for the first time after having followed our adventures for a while via the website and word of mouth. She was really great and promised to spread the word about Cherry Pie to any big hair fans that she meets. We were quite impressed by the festival itself, which is largely based on various contests and tournaments including volleyball and tug-o-war. The infrastructure was superb... the tent, stage, sound system, seats and overall grounds were all top notch. I knew we were on to something good early in the afternoon when I had a hot dog from the food stand. It was actually bun length! Yesireee, this festival did not "cut corners" and I, for one, really appreciated it. - Josh |
