The day began with falling rain and forecasts for thunderstorms and flooding in the evening. I left home thinking that we'd be lucky to play at all. Well, the fates smiled on us as the weather turned out great from about noon on, making the final day of Summerfest a big success all around. We played on the "Harley Davidson" stage, which is quite large, at 7:30. The Headliner Kansas had their equipment on the stage behind us and we still had a lot of room to work with. The crowd was great (that's a big understatement)... so many familiar faces: Chris Stinewal, Lonnie Stinewal, Maribeth Luedtke, Erika Kaegler, Colleen Evans, Kelly Bitzan, Stacy Hackl, Sheila Tate, Scott Aney, Connie Aney, Kelly Feldmann, Susan Schudiske, Vic Manchester, Lisa Kelm, Kelly McClure, Kitty Havlicek, Dave Shanklin, Barb Prueher, Cathy Dorsano, Jamie Mac, Stephanie Roix, Kelly Pronold, Julie Draski, Dawn Farris, Jessie Rehak, Tom Birkenmeyer, Sherry Becker, Dawn Busalacchi, Andi Brodsky and, oh... a few thousand other people. This was certainly the largest crowd Cherry Pie had ever played for in it's short history and fortunately a lot of things went right for us. Time was short when we had to set up our stage gear and we frantically rushed to get it done in time, but this stress was largely offset by the skill of the absolutely wonderful stage & sound technicians who really knew what they were doing. The supportive masses of spectators got us going right off the bat and we turned in a pretty strong show. The heat along with our heavy stage clothes made us sweat like crazy. It was so bad that it was difficult to hold a guitar pick and our instruments were getting soaked. Puddles formed where ever we would stand for more than a few moments. But it was all worth it. We left it all out on the stage. The crowd made us feel like rock stars for two hours, a sensation everyone should experience in their life. We need to give a extra special thanks to those people I listed above (along with a few others). They're the ones who've helped us feel special at times when things might not have been going as well as on this day, times in the small clubs with only a few dozen people in attendance. They are the people who put us in the position to play Summerfest in the first place. After our show I walked all over the grounds taking in the sights and sounds. I'm a huge Kansas fan (I took some photos of them last year, posted here) so I caught a lot of their set. National acts Kansas, Ben Folds Five and the BoDeans were all playing to absolute capacity crowds simultaneously. At the same time, local favorites The Love Monkeys, Problem Child and Doc Hammer were kicking ass in front of strong crowds of their own. It turned out to be a perfect Summerfest evening.    -Josh
