A Word from Josh: Without a spot at Summerfest this year, this gig was our way of playing NEAR Summerfest in response to dozens of inquiries over the last few weeks from people hoping to see us there. The bar operated a free shuttle service so that people could park there, go to Summerfest and then return to Bamboo Bob's, often pre-inebriated. So, for most in the crowd, we were a "nightcap" to a long and exciting day. We were glad that so many brought that excitement indoors with them to make our show something to remember. Another thing that made this night memorable came midway through the first set when the entire building suffered a power outage. We're talking a complete loss of all electricity plunging the crowded room into sudden darkness and silence. In order to maintain momentum during what turned out to be an eight minute blackout John and I took my acoustic guitar out onto the moonlit patio and had a sing-along of "Wanted Dead or Alive" with dozens of people who were determined to keep their spirits high during this major technical glitch. One technical triumph was the fact that our lighting crew managed to make use of our video screen despite the small stage and low ceiling. This is one of those rooms where we never thought we'd be able to make use of the screen, but with a little ingenuity, our crew guys are showing that just about anything is possible. Who knows, maybe we'll be able to use the screen in some other smaller rooms in the future. - Josh |
