A Word from Josh: Of course, any show at Summerfest is a great opportunity for any band and we had a lot to be thankful for coming in. However, I must admit that we anticipated a bit of a let down considering the fact that we had a very successful Summerfest show last year and this year we were scheduled in what appeared to be, on paper, a less favorable time slot. Fortunately, we did not play the show on paper. Instead, we played in on the Harley Stage in front of thousands of enthusiastic rock-n-rollers who f***ing blew us away. Several factors seemed to come together to make this show even better than last year. The weather was perfect, it was the day after the 4th of July Holiday and we were playing ahead of the mighty Boogiemen. Plus, I like to think that our own growing popularity also had something to do with it. In addition, we had a lot of help with advertising from our friends Lonnie Stinewal, Sheila Tate and Stacy Hackl who led a group effort of distributing flyers to Summerfest patrons in the days and hours before our show and then handing out band schedules afterward. Thanks so much guys. Plenty of other familiar faces were up front and center in the crowd, the people who have really helped drive our popularity in the clubs over the last year and a half. Folks like Maribeth Luedtke, Colleen Evans, Stephanie Roix, Paul Luedtke, Erika Kaegler, Christine Schmitz, Nikki Schmitz, Derek Gunderson, Ed Batayias, Lynn Rittberg, Karen Fleck, Shelly Korlesky, Eric Crittinger, Barb Prueher, Sandy Schroeder, Chris Stinewal, Paul Rennert, Julie Keller, Rachel Lapalme, Dawn Farris, Tammy Rehak, Sandy Cullen and Walter Cullen. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few, there were so many. Anyway, the show went well. The crowd responded favorably from our very first entrance and it kept getting better from there. I soaked in the moment as my lone acoustic guitar accompanied thousands of voices singing the first verse of "Dead or Alive". I was also very pleased to see an overwhelming response to one of my favorite tunes "Tom Sawyer" which unfortunately was marred by a keyboard failure about half-way through. But I'm being knit-picky. After all, the huge crowd seemed to love just about everything we did. And I must say, the roar of the crowd as we finished the show was probably the biggest and loudest that I've ever heard from a stage in my entire musical career. We are all extremely grateful to everyone who helped us feel like true rock stars for a couple of hours. To the old friends, to the "Cherry Pie Regulars" and to the people seeing us for the first time, we hope you enjoyed this day as much as we did. We look forward to seeing you again in the near future. - Josh |
