A Word from Josh: What turned out to be a pretty successful show for us almost didn't happen at all. Set-up was going fine throughout the afternoon until about 8 PM when we were supposed to do a sound check. Then, the main sound mixing board died. Yes, it died, took a dump. It was no more, it's pushing up daisies, it is an ex-mixing board! Well, we can't do a show without a mixing board. Soundman Bob DeYoung attempted to fix the situation by re-routing the power supply, by-passing the PA send drive-line... AND offering a blood sacrifice to the God of Aqua-Net. That having failed, he called his friend Eric Peterson who brought over a replacement board. By the time it was in place and fully plugged into the system it was already past 10 PM and nerves were on edge among the band and the club's management. This was our first time in this room and we knew that this was not a good first impression. The assembled crowd, by contrast, seemed to wait patiently through the delay as the house DJ system blasted some great tunes. We finally took the stage at about a quarter til eleven not really knowing what to expect from the sound system or the crowd. Our worries were quickly dispelled as a solid mix helped us win over the crowd right off the bat. The enthusiastic response really got us going and, within the first hour, club owner John Lyne started buying us shots (always a good sign). We went on to play a complete show, although we weren't allowed an encore because it was almost 2:30 by the time we stopped. Among the crowd of mostly new faces were a few guys standing in front of Dave's side of the stage seemingly getting off on every song. They sang along and did alot of air-guitaring and never seemed to get tired. There were some familiar faces in the crowd including Erika Kaegler, Adam Kehoe, Tom Birkenmeyer, Valerie & Jina, Stephanie Roix, Julie Hoffman, Julie Keller and Rachel Lapalme. We'd like to thank everybody who was there for their understanding and patience as we dealt with our technical problems. That's what made it possible for us to have such a great time. - Josh |
