Dispite a lot of hype over the "Hot Legs" Contest to be held during the band break, this show didn't draw as big a crowd as was hoped (personally, I think that installing doors on the toilet stalls would be a step in the right direction). Still, the 150 or so people to did come out were determined to have a great time. The stage in this club is very large and, as often happens, some women joined us on it strutting their stuff with the band early on. What made this night different was that about a half dozen of them ended up spending most of the night on the stage with us. Well, with all the bumping and grinding going on, we certainly weren't going to ask them to leave :-) This made for a lot of fun moments and at times our performance became an exercise in dealing with distractions. Maribeth Luedtke, Connie Aney and Connie's friend Ann were the folks who spent the most time "testing our professional resolve". Others in attendance included Erika Kaegler, Eddie de Bie and Shelly Shatkins. Lonnie & Chris Stinewal were also there, and they told me that they wouldn't be able to make it to Saturday's O'Brien's show which meant that their consecutive streak of Cherry Pie shows would be snapped at six, a mark which I believe has only been equalled by Tom Birkenmeyer who also made it to this show. Again, much appreciation goes out to Anne Mehlbrech and Meri Hendricks who earn the travel award for coming down from Wisconsin Rapids to see us with some of their Kenosha friends. Connie Aney ended up winning the "Hot Legs" Contest and was crowned "Miss Cherry Pie 2000" (what that means, I don't know), despite the fact that her husband Scott emceed the event. He had announced that she was not eligible to win but the crowd's applause, on which the results were based, was overwhelmingly in her favor. -Josh |
