Faces in
the Crowd
John was dealing with a serious bout of bronchitis last week which forced us to cancel last Saturday's Sheboygan show. Tonight, he rebounded in excellent voice. The whole band played well, even despite the three week lay-off. We took the opportunity to learn a couple more songs. We debuted "When the Children Cry" (a real tear-jerker) and "Sister Christian" (one of the best "chick" songs of the 80s) which both went well. We also dug "Final Countdown" out of mothballs, which turned out to be a mistake as it cleared the dance floor at the worst possible time. Many of our most loyal fans were in attendance including Lonnie Stinewal, Chris Stinewal, Sherry Becker, Tom Birkenmeyer, Sheila Tate and Stacy Hackl. Lisa Kelm came back to see us, this time with her friend Kelly, as did Kathy Reuteler and Kelly Sommerfeld. The club's DJ Vic Manchester didn't have to work since the house sound system had been blown out the night before during "Rock Night", but he came to see us anyway and spent a lot of time on the dance floor with Susan Schudiske. Ron Platt of the band ARRA came up from Chicago with his girlfriend Lisa and did a killer job as guest singer on "Faithfully". Also joining us on that song was drummer Andy Jimminez of the band SITE. Also in attendance were Andy's bandmates Jamie Mac and Kent Herman along with their friends Jamie Wanek, Dani, Amber Mishich, Mary Herman and Lisa Jimminez. The house DJ from Tropical Nights in Kenosha Scott "Rock" Aney made the trip with his wife Connie. Scott took the stage and sang "(I Hate) Everything About You" just as he'd done at Kenosha on 3/24 (I sense a tradition here). This guest appearance went well also, although Scott turned to me about half-way through the song, laughed and said "I'm way too sober for this." Some other musicians who were in attendance included Jim Best & Greg Jach from the band Dandelion Wine, "Fillet" & Chad Imler from the band Blu Steel and Bill Hass of the band The Array. Others in the crowd included Marie Sands, Linda "Kitty" Havlicek, Maggie, Stephanie and Holly. A woman named Linda came up on stage during both the first and second sets announcing her birthday and holding up a bunch of straws to demonstrate how much she was drinking. Along with her boyfriend, she coerced us into not only a heavy metal version of "Happy Birthday" but also a totally impromptu version of "Living After Midnight". All the extra fun extended the last set late into the night and we were forced to shut the show down to make way for bar time (that's been happening a lot lately). Sorry Skid Row fans. Not surprisingly, the "Fan of the Night" was definitely Maribeth Luedtke. She presented us with a surprise gift of a large banner with our logo on it as well as many excellent photos of past shows, but that's not even the best of it. She also brought a huge box full of home-made cookies which were shared by many. I continue to munch on them as I type this. Thanx Maribeth :-) -Josh
