A Word from Josh: QUESTION: What do George W. Bush and Cherry Pie have in common? ANSWER: Both are getting their picture in the paper. Yes, that's right. Feature writer Natasha Kassulke and photographer Steve Apps of the Wisconsin State Journal picked a good night to come check us out. They showed up early and followed us during our preparations. I suppose the piece they're working on could be called "Cherry Pie: Under the Hairspray." They were very nice to us and I think we were able to make them feel at home in our "inner circle" for the evening. Anyway, like I said, it was a good night. As often happens, a lot of little things went wrong for us, but overall the show turned out quite good. There was a strong crowd that really got into it from the first notes. Although we saw a lot of familiar faces, which is always great, I was stunned at the number of people who identified themselves as Cherry Pie first-timers (or virgins as Johnny calls them). I guess the word is continuing to spread and that's always a good thing. We continue to do more and more with our big video screen. Tonight, we debuted some cool footage from "Spinal Tap" and "The Three Stooges". But the video screen highlight of the night had to have been when camera operator Brandon Brinkman managed to get a good shot of a gorgeous young lady who was exposing herself to the stage. For a few moments, her bare breasts were projected six-feet wide on the screen for all to see. Once again, the Cherry Pie entertainment value proves to be a notch above the rest (LOL). More frivolity ensued when we helped celebrate Tanya's birthday. For years, Tanya has been a regular customer at Badger Bowl, routinely getting shit-faced during shows by Cherry Pie and other bands. She told us that for weeks she'd been looking forward to celebrating her birthday on this night with us. But then, a couple of weeks ago she got a job as a bartender at Badger Bowl and, as fate would have it, ended up having to work tonight! So when her friends presented her with a naughty cake (oddly, a human form with both male and female body parts, which perplexed John to no end), Tanya was brought up to the stage ironically sober. She blew out the candles and proceeded to munch down about half of the ample pastry phallus, which got a rise out of the crowd. Well, the gig was really fun and, as a result, I'm really sore. This is not unusual, but we have another show tomorrow in Sussex (and it's an early start) so I'd better get to bed. 'Later dudes. - Josh PS: READ THE ARTICLE as it appeared in the April 7 issue of the Wisconsin State Journal. |
