We were told that St. Patrick's Day was a big deal in Ridgeway and that things could get a bit wild. This turned out to be quite true, which suited me fine since it was my birthday! The fine folks at Uncle Milt's helped me celebrate in style. Aaron Broshous was in the spirit of things, making a drunken nuisance of himself hours before showtime and maintaining his enthusiasm for the duration. Other party animals included Lloyd Blackford, Dave Poole, Mark of the Crusaders motorcycle club, Shawn Duren, Denise Harrah, Andy Harrah, Paula Hansen, "Big Todd", Pam Shackelford, Kelly McCoy, Josh Smith and Tina Miller. I was pleasantly surprised to see Diane Spray who came down from Wausau and joined up with Lori Helvey from Madison. Early in the show we were in for a surprise treat as members of the Badger Pipes & Drums bagpipe club came to the stage and put on a performance. Later they led the Official Midnight St. Patrick's Day Parade down Main Street, but not before they serenaded me with a bagpipe rendition of Happy Birthday out in front of the club. Patty Hornby heard the tune and emerged from the crowd to announce that it was her birthday too. After the Parade we played our third set to a crowd that showed no signs of thinning out nor wearing down late into the night. John and Shane both spent some of their earlier years in this part of the state and they had several family members and friends in attendance including Paul & Tammy Syse, Chris Prohaska, Shari Norton, Jim & Ann Swenson, Brad Johnson, Tim Francios, Jeff Moen, Dave & Jennette Swenson, Jason Deery, Kevin & Julie Buel and Jason Dux. I have to admit that we were a bit disappointed that the "Vise Grips Lady" did not make an appearance, but otherwise it was a great night. -Josh |
