A Word from Nick:
Maybe it's something in the air... Maybe it is something in the water... or maybe its just that word is getting around that there's a group of guys blowing up stages, packing in crowds and playing great 80's BIG HAIR MUSIC. It is like a trailer full of horny honeymooners, things are really rocking for CHERRY PIE!!!!! This night was our first time back at ILLUSIONS in over seven months. In the past this club has seemed to plague us with either sound problems, technical difficulties or just the fact that we play like shit. Thankfully this night was a smooth as a baby's ass. O.K. here's how the night went down: First off I want to say the highlight of my night was when a certain three girls (and you know who you are) came back to my drum set to do some very dirty dancing, for your's truly. I gotta tell you it was hotter than naked fireman in a towering inferno!! I'd like to thank those girls for not only showing me how they can shake their money-makers but for strengthening my religious beliefs that there is a God... and he is very good to me. Anyway, back to the rest of the band: One point of interest is that our stage tech and really the guy who holds the handle on the whole band, OJ was on this third day of being a non-smoker. I don't think he really quit because although he said that he was worried about the health risks of smoking, I figure that a guy who handles as many explosives as he does,... well, you can put 2 and 2 together. Our first guest singer of the night was guy who just screams of ROCK N ROLL like a cat stuck under a car tire. That's right - none other than local celebrity Michael Sean of the band King Kong and founder of the open jam night at Top Prospects. Michael took over the reigns on "Love Of A Lifetime" and with his soulful singing it like he was a t the zoo feeding the goats because he had the crowd eating out of the palm of his hand. Michael then sang on what I think classifies as some sort of duet with John on the song "Wait". Somewhat unsure of the words though the song, Michael just kept his eyes on Johnny for the words to the tune. It was absolutely beautiful, kinda reminiscent of the Lita Ford & Ozzy Osbourne video that was always on MTV, from when they actually played music videos. Scott Rock also graced the stage wit his presence to sing his usual song "I Hate Everything About You". I have got to say that Scott has more energy than a nuclear reactor. When the band kicked in to the main riff he dropped to his knees and started head banging. He kinda reminded me of a king cobra after someone just taken the top off of that basket. And proving once again that this musician is as versatile as a roll of duct tape, Josh came up and played the drums on our encore song "Sweet Emotions". He asked me on the spur of the moment if I would let him play drums. I should have known something was up when during sound check he got on the drums and busted out some "Tom Sawyer" licks that he actually did justice to. So, he's playing the drums so I thought I would show him some of my keyboard chops... yeah I was playing behind my back one handed, it didn't matter - I was like a bank, I was so on the money. However I gotta think that I must have accidentally bumped the volume button because all the magic that I was able to muster up didn't seem to be coming out of the PA. Oh well, there will be other opportunities for that some other time - so until then, thank you to our loyal fans who help keep making each show so much more fun that the last.    - Nick "Jack Hammer"
